[Electronic] Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence (Datsik Remix)

Lana Del Rey
Ultraviolence (Datsik Remix)

It’s no secret that Lana Del Rey‘s film noir-esque voice lends itself wonderfully to the electronic remix. Dubstep veteran, Datsikis the latest producer to reimagine Lana with his take on the title track from her latest album, UltraviolenceRather than completely change the vibe, Datsik adds a layer of heavy bass amplifying the somber feel and creating a wobbly masterpiece in the process. This one’s the perfect catalyst to kick off your Friday shenanigans.

[Remix] AraabMuzik – Summer Time

Summer Time

The master of the MPC, AraabMuzik, took to his SoundCloud a few minutes ago to let loose a phenomenal remix that brings back “Summertime Sadness,” one of last summer’s biggest hits, just in time for the heat of June. The solemn vocals of Lana Del Rey, who’s latest album has been topping charts once again, lend themselves perfectly to the ethereal-trap of the pioneering producer. As opposed to his usual aggressive approach on the pads, Araab drops the tempo to match the depth of emotion expressed in the original resulting in a track perfect for a late night adventure in the warmth of a summer night. Enjoy this one above and look out for Araab’s upcoming project, For Professional Use Only Pt. 2, which drops July 14th.

[Deep-House/Indie-Dance] Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness (Vanilla Ace & Pyrros Bootleg)

Summertime Sadness (Vanilla Ace & Pyrros Bootleg)- Vanilla Ace vs Lana Del Rey
FREE DOWNLOAD

It’s Friday, which for a few of us Ninjas means our mind is on one thing: dancing. What better way to kick off our favorite day of the week than with one of our long kept house secrets, London’s Vanilla Ace. This little edit; which came to fruition in collaboration with Pyrros, takes Vanilla Ace’s “Don’t Go” and slathers it with Lana Del Rey’s candy-sweet incantations from her anthemic “Summertime Sadness”.  Pyrros and Vanilla Ace’s bootleg actually popped up on our Soundcloud a few days ago, but we felt a need to share heading into a musically packed weekend to get our hips gyrating in advance. Perhaps one of the most consistent house producers at the moment with what seems like at least one release per week on some of this writer’s favorite labels including Andre Crom’s Off Recordings, Sharam Jey’s Bunny Tiger, Rob Made’s Sleazy G/Sleazy Deep imprint and more that span underground dance genres from Deep and G-House/Funk to Indie-Dance and Nu-Disko; Vanilla Ace’s output wields a consistency and polish which new producers should be utterly envious of. It’s rare we’re able to feature a free download from Mr. Ace, so we were thrilled when we learned he’d be giving this one away in exchange for a quick Facebook “Like”. Snag a copy here, and we’ll see all of you out on the floor soon!

[Chill] Lana Del Rey – West Coast (Hippie Sabotage Remix)

Lana Del Rey
West Coast (Hippie Sabotage Remix)

Production duo, Hippie Sabotagehave not put out much music, but the remixes and original productions we have heard from them thus far have been phenomenal. On their latest remix, the Cali-based brothers appropriately flip  “West Coast,” Lana Del Reys recent single, into a mesmerizing down-tempo masterpiece. Starting off minimally, the re-work builds until around the 1 minute mark when it falls into a subtle epicness before returning to a stripped-down tone. After another drop, the last 30 seconds of the song ride the listener out in a smooth, percussion-assisted groove.

As I finished this post, I realized that all the songs including this one mysteriously disappeared from Hippie Sabotage’s SoundCloud page. Thanks to our ninja powers, though,  you can still vibe out to this one above.

Once Upon a Dream

Viewers of the Grammy’s last night received a little extra during the commercial break. Premiering the second trailer for the upcoming Disney movie Maleficent, Lana Del Rey’s new cover track “Once Upon a Dream” also made its debut. The chilling tune sets a tense mood for the theatrical trailer and Rey’s signature moody voice is a perfect backdrop. Swooning and placing listeners in a trance, the single will be the film’s title track. Telling the story of the classic Grimm fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the “evil sorceress”, the upcoming flick is set to drop May 30th nationwide. [Cover] The Arkells – Video Games (Lana Del Rey)

Ontario’s indie rock favorites, The Arkells, have released a new cover version of Lana Del Rey’s song “Video Games”. Their version retreats from the electronic and orchestral overtones that hold sway in Lana’s original almost completely. Instead, the band has provided a new look into the song by way of acoustic finger style guitar and a slightly quicker delivery; A departure from even their own usually upbeat sound, this new take shows the group’s musical versatility.
