[Electronic] Manic Focus – Minds Rising LP

Manic Focus has continuously kept in his own lane with his own sound. The amazing thing about him is that his style translates across genre lines, which is undoubtedly evident from his past albums, as well as his newest in Minds Rising. Independently released, this major project is yet another example of why MF is one of the best in the game, with a certain confidence – not cockiness – that most producers lack.

Minds Rising runs the length of twelve singles, with a lengthy list of collaborators including Exmag, Psymbionic, Russ Liquid, ProbCause and many more. As with most of Manic’s tracks, we get whisked away on a chill adventure through several styles, including a few hip-hop records that are just about as dope as you can get. With other tracks like “Pushing” and “Rage Fits” Manic Focus hones in one some groovy basslines and guitar riffs that seduce the soul. Manic always manages to connect with people on a deep level with his music, which is one of the many reasons why he’s been able to do so well on his own.

Through and through this album is incredible. Going into this LP we didn’t expect we’d have to skip any songs and that held true. Some of our favorite musical works have come from Manic Focus and there may just be a few that get added to the list from Minds Rising. Check it out for yourself today and make sure to get a copy.

[Electronic] Manic Focus – Putting All Of My People On Feat. ProbCause

Manic Focus
Putting All Of My People On Feat. ProbCause

As we inch closer to the release of a new album from Manic Focus, we get another single from the Chicago producer. “Putting All Of My People On” has the beatsmith going a bit more hip-hop focused alongside ProbCause for a saucy trapped out single.

Hip-hop has always been an influence in works by Manic Focus, but here he really narrows in on the style, bringing in a dynamic, yet thuggish instrumental that shows a veteran understanding of rap beats. It’s more than a simple beat, it’s an entire song in itself, but to sweeten the pot we get some ingenious lyrics on top. Blending these genres together has been done before, but Manic Focus manages to show why he deserves your ears over other talents. We can’t wait to see just what the album has in store, but for now you can purchase “Putting All Of My People On” through iTunes today.

[Future Funk] Manic Focus – Stronger feat. Late Night Radio, Jennifer Hartswick & Adam Deitch

Stronger feat. Late Night Radio, Jennifer Hartswick & Adam Deitch

When Manic Focus releases something, you listen. It’s a must. He’s been quiet recently, but now a new single has surfaced with the promise of an album. Mind Rising is due out in April, but today we have “Stronger” featuring Late Night Radio, Jennifer Hartswick and Adam Deitch.

Manic Focus has made some of my all time favorite electronic music songs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I add another to the list after the album drops, especially if the tracks are as good as “Stronger.” With this single we get a cool, funky jam that exemplifies the producer’s iconic style. All the parties involved worked together seemingly without any conflict, with the result being a super sweet record. Although the album isn’t due out until April 21st, “Stronger” is currently available on iTunes for purchase.

[Album Review] GRiZ – Say It Loud

Generally when sites or magazines write positive reviews on albums, they’ll (try) to come up with a nice, catchy title for the article. Even for good singles the same can be said; but in our opinion, GRiZ and his album title of Say It Loud, is all that needs to be said. Of course, that’s not really all that needs to be said, because we’re diving headfirst into a full song-by-song album review of the eleven part project.

On January 13th of this year, GRiZ announced All Good Records, his new full service label. That entity has already had some sweet releases, and now the mastermind has added his inaugural All Good album onto that list. It’s legendary, and it’s the culmination of not only the efforts of Grant, but also a lengthy list of comrades. You can pick up GRiZ’s album in a variety of formats here.

’GRiZ – The Anthem (ft. Mike Avery)’

The first of those comrades is Mike Avery, who starred in “The Anthem,” which was premiered by Billboard back in February. In starting off with GRiZ’s own vocal, “Let’s get loose; you guys feeling good?,” with the children’s ecstatic response, the whole album starts off with instant good vibes. As far as anthems go, this sets out to be “The Anthem” of all anthems. It arguably could be so, and it’s not even the my favorite track on the project. How do you get better than a 10? You’ll hear soon.

’GRiZ – Funk Party’

Everyone loves a nice “Funk Party” right? Right. Especially when it’s GRiZ somewhat surprisingly going off on some dirty glitch meets twerky moombah madness. For those who like it a little grimier, this gem should please your ears extensively. Don’t be misled by my verbiage though, because things still get pretty saxy on this single.

’GRiZ – Get Down (ft. Sunsquabi And Manic Focus)’

“Get Down” brings with it two collaborators, being Colorado’s Sunsquabi and the beat machine Manic Focus. With guitar and saxophone solos, “Get Down” has a whole lot going on in it. The ending phrase alone is genius. The journey up to it is both exciting and groovy beyond what is necessary, but surely we all can agree there can never be too much funk.

’GRiZ – Need This (ft. The Floozies)’

GRiZ enlists label family members The Floozies onto a track that some fans have been waiting over a year for. “Need This” has the sort of thuggish groove that makes pimp daddies like Andre Nickatina quiver at the knees. It’s dirty, but man is it also classy as hell. Around the last minute we get sonically blessed by a cleansing conclusion which is too tasteful to describe in words. Continue reading
