[Hip-Hop] Slaughterhouse – Goodbye ft. Skylar Grey (Prod. Boi-1da)

With an all-star line up including Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Crooked I, Slaughterhouse is bringing its A-game once again. The Shady Records supergroup goes in over a hard-hitting piano with a melodic chorus by the beautiful Skylar Grey. Talking about their own experiences with death, each member (minus Royce) channels the angst that comes with losing someone. Each verse brings a new level of pain and this emotional ballad is sure to relive emotions evoking a certain empathy from the audience.

You can stream this somber single below and head to iTunes to cop if you are feeling it. With their album Welcome to: Our House releasing August 28th,  none of their songs should be slept on, and not just because they drew from their mentor Eminem.

[New] Michael Kiwanuka- Home Again

British singer/songriter Michael Kiwanuka is a fresh cup of coffee for a world of drowsy, early morning, soul music. Michael comes equipped with melodic guitars, light percussion, and a voice that’s somewhere between Otis Redding, Miles Davis, Bill Withers, and Robert Pattinson. The title track of his new CD, “Home Again”, is an introspective take on the comfort and safety of home, and how you long for it when you’re away.

Home again, Michael’s new album, will be out on March 26th 2012 on Mumford & Sons‘ Communion label. Pre-orders are available.

[Mellow/Throwback]Department of Eagles 'Sailing by Night' + 'Brightest Minds' Archive 2003-2006

department-of-eagles

I’ve always been a pretty big fan of In Ear Park, the 2008 album from Department of Eagles, so I was pretty excited to learn that they would be releasing some material that’s been recorded for years but has never seen the light of day. And in the process, I found out that there was actually an album before In Ear Park (I know, get with the times, right?). So after a little exploring of that, I sort of fell in love with this tune. It’s pretty much all that I love about this band, a hint of that Grizzly Bear sound (actually, it’s probably much more historically accurate that Grizzly Bear has a hint of that Department of Eagles sound) mixed with some electronic elements, all bundled together in a great lo-fi package.

In the ‘slight’ chance that you have been living in a cave for the past couple of years and have no idea who these guys are, it is only fair for you to also listen to ‘No One Does It Like You’, a whimsical wonder from their sophomore album In Ear Park released by 4AD on October 7, 2008.

[Folk] A sad but strangely compelling tune

Six Feet Under by Folk Singer Louis Aguilar

LouisAguilar-SixFeetUnder

I apologize. It is uncalled for putting up a sad folky mellow tune on a Monday. You might be already depressed for knowing that the weekend is over and this tune might not help you feel any better. But in the interest for GREAT music, I must continue. Six Feet Under is a bitter sweet song from French born folk singer Louis Aguilar, who know resides in Marshall, Missouri.

With a calm rusty voice, Louis shares a tale about a man who is going through an important change in his life. Whether it is a metaphorical change about life, or simply a much literal reference to death itself, Louis reminds us to enjoy life and all its glory. No matter what we are or believe in, the truth of it all is that life is short for a reason, so we can treasure every minute of it… and ill stop there before I sound too corny! Such a powerful tune can be found on his album Old Man Poems and much more on his myspace.

The Music Ninja 2.0

sorry-lol

ahhh Freeee at lasst! The weekend is here! Sad and shameful I have only done 2 posts in the last 7 days! Full Time job has become almost a full life job and from the Music Blogger Reply All madness, I have been spending my time creating and maintaining http://www.replyall.ws a forum exclusively for music bloggers. However, it is now time to continue to do (one of) the things I enjoy doing the most, post new songs here on The Music Ninja!

Whats new about The Music Ninja that makes it a new version 2.0? The site itself has not change, it is referring to the way I will start blogging from now on. Shorter posts, updated more often. I think this will be a nice change of pace and will allow me to catch up with my inbox. There are too many great songs that need to be discovered and for now, I rather post them on the blog today than spend about 4 weeks on my inbox in obscurity. This will allow me to start doing interviews and covering live shows in Orlando, Florida.

So much work and keeping busy that tonight I just needed to relax and chill out. Here is Feist And The Constantines cover of Island in the Stream
