[Electronic] Cashmere Cat – 9 (After Coachella) ft. MØ & SOPHIE (KRANE Remix)

Cashmere Cat
9 (After Coachella) ft. MØ & SOPHIE [KRANE Remix]

“With this one I sat down, didn’t overthink it and just had fun…” -KRANE via Pop Crush

Fun is the first word that comes to mind when listening to this record. Krane has taken the unique production of Cashmere Cat, the vocals of MO and style of SOPHIE and turned “9 (After Coachella)” into something completely original. This rising producer does a fantastic job of incorporating his own sounds of synths and hints of trap, separate of Cashmere’s funky plucks that permeate the original version. The flip creates an excitement and energy that is surely going to be found throughout the rest of the festival season. To top it all off this remix is available for FREE download here.

[Pop] MØ – Kamikaze (prod. Diplo)

_MØ_
Kamikaze

With the success of “Lean On,” Danish vocalist  is well on her way to stardom, and rightfully so–she glides over electronic soundscapes with a grace and character matched by few of her contemporaries. If you’re not familiar with the rest of her catalogue, we’d highly recommend giving her album No Mythologies To Follow a listen. Yesterday, Annie Mac premiered MØ’s latest Diplo-produced single, which serves as a fitting progression in their ongoing series of collaborations. “Kamikaze,” similar to “Lean On,” features a markedly downtempo backdrop with an understated catchiness designed to grow with every listen. Once again, MØ proves she knows exactly how to bring out the best in Diplo’s production and that not every pop song has to be obnoxiously formulaic. Here’s what she had to say about working with Diplo:

I love working with Diplo. It’s always such a fun and open-minded creative process. It’s about making memorable songs but, more than that, it’s about making pop music that wants to push boundaries. I’ve been loving all kinds of pop since I first fell in love with the Spice Girls, but pop needs to bring something new to the table, it needs balls. And that’s what you get working with Diplo. Making Lean On and being a part of that tornado these past eight months has been one of the greatest experiences in my life so far, and I’m super happy that “Kamikaze” is made in a collaboration with the same group of my friends.

Here’s to hoping the stream of MØ and Diplo collabs continue!

[Festival Review] Life on the Incline: Sasquatch!, the Gorge and the Hill’s Eternal Serenity

17496069434_2c6a933028_oThere’s nothing quite like the sensation of sitting sideways atop the slope of the Gorge Amphitheater’s hill at Sasquatch! Music Festival overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Add entrancing music to a background that no picture or piece of art could ever do justice; and, at that intersection, you’ll find the happy place Squatchers look forward to all year. The so-far-past picturesque backdrop sets the tone for the festival but, with arguably one of its best lineups yet, was a far cry from Sasquatch’s only attraction this year. Rather, the main stage’s slope served as the much-needed anchor after a dance party at the Chupacabra tent or Big Foot stage—a place to lie, head up or down, and absorb the collective consciousness of thousands of equally inspired concertgoers.

Music festivals have become such chaotic events and Sasquatch! is, certainly not an exception, but it’s that same comfort felt on the hill that permeates throughout the entire campground. No matter what you’re going through or how you’re feeling, the hill will take your emotional state to serenity, where it belongs.

18009447496_4d9cd9882f_oWords, photos and songs really can’t do justice to just how incredible the Squatch is but we’ve done our best to recap, from our perspective, the musical highlights from the 4 days. For those of you who were there, we hope this brings you back even if just a little bit and for those who weren’t, well, you’re going to want to be there next year after peeping our recap.

Major Lazer & DJ Snake
Lean On (feat. MØ)

Major Lazer and DJ Snake aren’t names you’d generally associate with laid back vibes but they’ve both proven versatile in their ability to go the chilled-out route. Today, we get one of several anticipated collabs between the two with “Lean On,” featuring talented Swedish vocalist “Lean On” carries a smooth island feel matching MØ’s flawless voice, which exudes her perfected pop sensibility. The addicting chorus employs DJ Snake’s signature vocal manipulation but, rather than tear the roof off, it builds an infectiously uplifting groove. There’s some parallels to be found between the beauty of this track and “Get Free,” another gorgeous Major Lazer tune guided by a powerful female voice. Give this one a spin above–we can guarantee it’ll be in heavy rotation after one listen.
