This week’s episode kicked off with a chilled out soul / jazz vibe that carried through out, across genres. Although there were notable Friday releases from some veterans, Brockhampton‘s Saturation III was easily the project I was the most excited for. Their third album of the year delivered possibly their most ambitious and interesting yet. I matched its title by playing 4 tracks from Saturation III. The second half of the show delved into some jazzy, off-kilter house from Frits Wentink, Ben Hauke, Kerem Akdag, O’Flynn and more. I had to close out the show with a behemoth new Nicolas Jaar track from the deluxe edition of Sirens. – ash.

To support the release of Vacation Remixes on February 28th, Friends of Friends Music has released Nicolas Jaar‘s edit of Shlohmo‘s “Rained The Whole Time.” The track is a moody and emotional illustration of how much one song can move by simple changes in the beat. For the first half of the track the guitar is playing two chords back and forth… but it never feels stagnant or boring. When it drops, Jaar’s intuition and krautrock influences take hold and the song really moves as the layers and textures take over and turn the track into something undeniably big. Minimal mastermind Nicolas Jaar dropped this sultry new track a few weeks ago but we’re just catching up with it now, thanks to Gorilla Vs Bear. Apparently we were all tucking into the mulled wine when we should have been keeping an eye on NPR’s favorite new artists of 2011 post.

‘With Just One Glance’ features the smoldering vocals of Scout LaRue, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter, and is everything you’d hope for from Nicolas Jaar; a mesmerizing, down-tempo jam that’s spacious, melodic and utterly intoxicating.
