Busta Rhymes feat. Pharrell – Light Your Ass On Fire (Nick Evol Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Nick Evol
Light Your Ass On Fire (Nick Evol Remix)*Free Download*

“Light Your Ass On Fire” was the major collaboration between Busta Rhymes and Pharrell from 2003. Now in 2018, instead of jamming out to the hip-hop original, we’re getting down and dirty with the electro version thanks to Nick Evol.

The dojo welcomes Nick yet again for another premiere, this time of his dark, energetic cut of the aforementioned hit. In keeping with an electro inspired sound, Nick further establishes himself in the bass scene as a unique tangent to the sounds of Rezz and her forerunners. With this take he keeps his sharp industrial edge which we have come to love. With subtle hints of the original hi-hop beat, the blend of genres is riveting. Lastly, Nick Evol dropped this one as a free download!

[16 To End 2016] Ninja Ash’s Best Of The Year

As many grievances as 2016 brought, it’d be a lie to say it wasn’t an incredible year of music. Perhaps, that’s how it always works–the best art comes in the worst of times. Music has always been my primary coping mechanism and I couldn’t be more thankful for all the artists that made this year bearable and, quite honestly, pretty damn fun despite it all. These are the songs that soundtracked my best moments and lifted me up during my lowest–I hope they can do the same for you. Happy New Year!

Solange
Cranes In The Sky (Kaytranada Edit)

No song quite captured the struggle of depression in a more captivating manner than Solange‘s ‘Cranes In The Sky.’ Kaytranada‘s edit makes it glow even more.

Moses Sumney
Lonely World

2016 was a well-deserved breakout year for the incredibly talented Moses Sumney. “Lonely World,” with its intense progression, would be my song of the year if I had to pick one.

Autolux
Change My Head

Autolux were easily one of my favorite discoveries of the year and “Change My Head” is them at their most potent–haunting, grungy and catchy with raw, dynamic percussion.

Moderat
Reminder

Moderat‘s III was my favorite album of the year and ‘Reminder’ exemplifies the super-group’s incredible production in both its stark lows and explosive highs.

Mick Jenkins
Drowning feat. BADBADNOTGOOD

This is just a beautiful protest song in so many ways. From Mick Jenkins‘ versatile rapping and singing to Badbadnotgood‘s flawless live instrumentation, it possesses a unique balance and thoughtfulness that few similarly themed songs display. Make sure to check out the entrancing music video as well.

Blood Orange
E.V.P.

This one’s for Prince! Blood Orange couldn’t have given us Freetown Sound at a better juncture.

Kaytranada
Glowed Up (feat. Anderson .Paak)

Two of 2016’s all-stars team up for pure gold capturing Kaytra’s intriguing cadence and Anderson .Paak‘s soulful flows.

Innanet James
Summer Prod. The Kount

Innanet James‘ introduction to the music world comes with this no-fucks-given summer anthem that also highlights The Kount, a candidate for best new hip-hop producer.

Kid Cudi
By Design (feat. Andre 3000)

Kid Cudi, Plain Pat, Pharrell & Andre 3000…yeah, could’ve guess this one would be in my 16 before I even heard it. Can’t stop listening to this one.

A Tribe Called Quest
We The People

A message of inclusion that came when I needed it and from exactly the crew I wanted to hear it from. RIP Phife Dawg!

Rufus Du Sol
Innerbloom

“Innerbloom” is truly Rufus Du Sol‘s manifesto–an epic that captures the essence of their endlessly playable 2016 release, Bloom. This song also spawned one of the best remixes of the year from What So Not.

Kenton Slash Demon
TT

Kenton Slash Demon continue to enamor me with their trippy, textured take on dance music. ‘TT’ manages to feel both ethereal and ready for the dance floor.

Frank Ocean
White Ferrari (Jacques Greene Edit)

The original version of “White Ferrari” may be my favorite track from Frank Ocean‘s emotional masterpiece, Blonde–capturing both its most and least accessible elements. Montreal producer Jacques Greene released nothing but phenomenal productions this year but this remix of Frank takes the cake.

Ross From Friends
Gettin’ It Done

Aside from having the best name in dance music, Ross From Friends flipped everything I thought I knew about house music on its head. “Gettin’ It Done” certainly makes you want to dance but the lo-fi sonics teamed with a masterfully utilized soul sample create a vibe unlike anything I’ve heard before. If you dig this one, check out this mind-blowing live performance from Ross & crew.

Mall Grab
Father

Mall Grab wins the award for my favorite house discovery of 2016 and this take on the sample from Kanye’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1” was a staple in my DJ sets this year. While I love Kanye’s version, his cringe-worthy opening line disqualified it from any best of lists.

Billy Kenny
Work Me (Justin Jay Remix)

Werk into the New Year!

[Groove] Full Crate – Special

Full Crate
Special

Dutch producer Full Crate‘s creations find themselves at a wonderful intersection of styles making his music equal parts refreshing and difficult to place. On his latest single, “Special,” this proves true as ever as he builds a house groove with a distinctly organic set of percussive instrumentation. Full Crate masterfully weaves a sample from Pharrell‘s “Beautiful” and additional vocals from the talented Gia Koka over that fresh backdrop further accentuated by a soothing bass line and syncopated keys. It’s a truly enticing track that warrants consecutive listens to really emotionally grasp.

Along with this splendid release, Full Crate also announced his aptly-titled upcoming EP Pleasure Pools, which we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for. Catch some vibes above and grab a free download here.

[NEW] Pharrell – Frontin’ (Disclosure Re-Work)

Frontin'
Pharrell ft. Jay Z (Disclosure Re-Work)

Long-time Pharrell fans undoubtedly feel a sense of nostalgia for his incredible work of the early and mid 2000s. Luckily, though, the legendary Virginia-bred producer continues to make amazing music and the breadth of his influence is strong in both hip-hop and EDM. Today, we get a special treat from UK EDM stars, Disclosurein the form of an incredible remix of Pharrell’s classic, Jay-Z featuring track, “Frontin.”

Disclosure’s funky electronic sound meshes perfectly with the instrumental creating an incredibly fun and bouncy summer anthem. It comes as no surprise that the two styles work so well together considering that the brothers of Disclosure have, on multiple occasions, mentioned Pharrell as a musical inspiration. Kick your weekend off right with this one and look out for a free download as the SC description suggests they’ll be giving it away once they reach 1 million likes on their Facebook page.

[Nu-Disco] Pharrell ft. Justin Timberlake – Brand New (Slinger Remix)

Pharrell
Brand New (Slinger Remix)

There is something almost symbiotic about the relationship between disco dance vibes and Mondays. One pulls its listener into visions of happy, sunshine soaked dance floors while the other is slightly more bleak in its undertone, pulling your psyche into a paradoxical direction altogether. Yin and Yang. Sweet and salty. Balance. Which, not to wax philosophically for much longer, is why we love to pair glitzy club tunes with the most dreaded day of the week. Today, the mysterious Slinger popped up with a very driven and elegant slice of disco induced house rhythms that commanded the undivided attention of our cochlear cavities from its onset. Remixing two of the most influential artists of our time can be an arduous task, but Slinger’s slinky kicks and pointed nu-disco percussion paired with the unmistakable and altogether dreamy vocal reverberations of Pharrell and Justin Timberlake has resulted in quite the hooky dance tune in the form of a syrupy Summer nu-disco remix. The vibe painted onto “Brand New” by Slinger is one of high energy poolside day parties, which I think we could all be yearning for right about now. Slinger is most certainly an act to keep your ears tuned into, and you can bet that ours will be too. Check it out above.

Love Is The Answer (Feat. Pharrell)

Another single, another hit produced by Pharrell. Singer/Songwriter Aloe Blacc‘s track “Love Is The Answer’, off his Wake Me Up EP, dropped earlier this week. Blacc channels Stevie Wonder on this light-hearted, uplifting ballad. Pharrell has definitely been killing it this summer with new tunes, but this time he fades into the background and lets Blacc’s voice shine through. Bringing in some horns and strong vocals revolving around love, this catchy tune is a taste of the past brought into modern times. Mixing some 70’s goodness with an organic jazz beat, this throwback sound is available now on iTunes
