[Electronic] Imanos – Gunshy (feat. Pusha T & Karen Harding)

Vancouver resident and Casablance Records signee Imanos just dropped a genre-defying single with Pusha T and Karen Harding. Together these three cooked up “Gunshy,” the producers debut original single. It’s been a long time coming but now it is finally here in full.

“Gunshy” is a cool sort of duet, with Pusha T’s rapping playing off Karen’s sweet vocal. For a first song, Imanos didn’t pull any punches with his instrumental that is “a straight banger” as Imanos puts it in his own words. We’d have to agree. The quality of this single is just what you would expect coming from a major label artist. Even in working with someone as big as Pusha T, Imanos stands his ground as an artist deserving of all the same type of recognition. Get your copy of “Gunshy” today.

[Future] iSHi Ft. Pusha T – Push It (Didrick Bootleg)

Push It (Didrick Remix)

Please get out a pencil and paper, or open a google drive document, or get your memory storage processes on point, because you need to keep the name Didrick around. Some may recognize him from his engagements with Monstercat and Mr. Suicide Sheep, but chances are that this talent has remained a shadowy gem despite pulling incredible plays.

Today, we get to support the producer’s new remix of “Push It,” originally by iSHi and Pusha T, that he released for free, no strings attached. Didrick took a future route with his upbeat rework of the 4/20 release. His progressive style he usually runs with translates well over to this downtempo vibe haven. He created three minutes and fifteen seconds of quite compelling music that is definitely going to be on some of the ninja’s summer playlists. Don’t be surprised if it ends up on yours either.

CHIMES RMX ft Pusha T, Future, Travi$ Scott, French Montana

When Hudson Mohawke first signed to G.O.O.D. Music, we hoped that lineups for his productions and remixes would feature the A-listers. His newest EP release “Chimes” was even featured on an Ad for Apple so it’s safe to say, he is finally blowing up. Now, we get the “Chimes (Remix)” with Future on the hook, as well as support from Pusha-T, French Montana and Travi$ Scott. Look out for more massive collabs from the Hud Mo/TNGHT camp, it has only just begun. Cheers.

[NEW] Pusha T – Lunch Money (prod. Kanye West)

Lunch Money (Prod. Kanye West)

Pusha T has had one of the most interesting career trajectories in hip-hop–from legitimate dope dealer to half of one of the greatest hip-hop duos ever to a potent solo artist and Kanye West‘s go-to feature emcee. His debut solo album, My Name is My Name, cemented his relevancy in the current rap landscape with its ferocious lyricism, versatile storytelling and general crazy-eyed energy. Naturally, his work with his G.O.O.D. Music label-boss, Kanye West, has marked some of his most groundbreaking recent work (see: “Numbers on the Board”) and today we get another collaboration with the first single from his upcoming 2015 sophomore album, King Push, which is due out early next year.

“Lunch Money” sees West once again crafting an unorthodox, minimalistic instrumental for Push with a bubbling, looped pad and a stuttering sample reminiscent of some of the Neptunes productions from the Clipse days. As always, King Push brings the heat with lines like, “Shout out my Mac-11 mobsta/Grew up on Nintendo playing contra/and though that n***a only 5’9″/100 bodies on his timeline.” Eghk

Phantogram Talk Psychic Connections, Childhood Memories and Musical Influences at Sasquatch! 2014 [TMN Exclusive Interview]

PHANTOGRAM
Black Out Days

Experimental-pop duo Phantogram have continued their incredible run of the last few years with the February release of their second album, Voicesa project incepted in the midst of a seemingly never-ending string of quality sold-out shows and festival appearances. Band members Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have a knack for melding deeply emotional undertones with euphoric melodies and hip-hop inspired rhythms resulting in a larger-than-life sound. Nowhere is this style more pronounced and evolved than on Voices, their major label debut, which serves as an organic progression that takes their music to a new level of intensity.

I was lucky enough to sit down with Josh and Sarah shortly before their performance at this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival to learn about their journey thus far. Phantogram’s show at the Gorge’s Bigfoot Stage truly embodied their collaborative artistic growth with a perfectly synced, powerful and mesmerizing experience. Check out the conversation below and make sure to catch Phantogram on one of their upcoming tour dates–it’s definitely not a show you will want to miss.

TMN: I know that you two have known each other since middle school, growing up together in New York. Were you guys already involved in playing music at all back then? Was there any indication that you might be in a band when you were older, or was that not at all in your minds yet?

Josh: When I was a teenager, I was just really into skateboarding a lot. I was skate or die. Music was always a huge part of my life, and when I think back at growing up, I didn’t make music or anything, but I was always kind of writing songs in my head and thinking up beats. When I wasn’t skating around with headphones on, I was always kind of making beats in my head. So I should’ve known better that maybe I would start doing it, but music came into my life later. When I was in my late teens/early twenties was when I got really into it. I learned how to play guitar, drums and piano.

Sarah: For me, it was the same kind of idea. When I was a kid, I would always sing along to songs, but I didn’t think that I was going to sing. And not even close to being in a band and writing, producing and creating music until Josh and I met up together.

TMN: Does having that friendship for such a long time play a large role in your dynamic as musicians?

Josh: Yeah, I mean, we are like brother and sister. And kind of like psychic twins artistically and emotionally too, which has a huge role in how we make music because we’re very connected and in-tune with each other’s emotions and experiences in life. Without that, I don’t think we’d make music that is so personal and emotional. I really do think that our music has a certain emotion behind it that would be lacking if we weren’t so connected.

TMN: Talk a bit about the formation of the band because I know you both were working on some music of your own at the time you joined forces, and had a band under a different name at first. How did Phantogram come to fruition?

Josh: I was playing in a band with my brother in New York and then I decided I just wanted to work on my solo career, which was basically working on my own stuff at home. Sarah and I started hanging out a lot when I moved from NYC to upstate New York, closer to where we grew up. She had finished college and came back to our home area and I was playing her a lot of my demos and solo stuff. I just asked her if she wanted to sing on some of them and she did and I think we kind of looked at each other and were like, “this sounds awesome. let’s start a band.” And then we just did it. And the good music just keeps on coming. Just in time for Black Friday, hit-maker Justin Timberlake drops an unexpected new remix to his latest single, “TKO,” bringing in some heavyweight emcees to deliver some dope verses over the Timbaland production. J.Cole steps up to the plate first, with a vicious verse utilizing a similar flow to Drake‘s on “Versace.” The Roc Nation emcee even gives fans a response to the now infamous Kendrick Lamar diss on “Control.” A$AP follows by addressing the rumors swirling around about his highly talked about love life and Pusha T closes things about by making a case that he has the album of the year. This mix is definitely audio crack and should not go unheard. Take a listen and decide which emcee had the best verse over the addicting beat.
