[Future] Sam Smith – Lay Me Down (Flume Remix)

Sam Smith
Lay Me Down (Flume Remix)

Flume decided to randomly break his silence with a Sam Smith remix today, so you already know it’s going to be a great week. A long silence usually means new material, and Flume has mentioned that this is just the tip of the iceberg of quite a bit of unreleased tracks. This remix doesn’t rely heavily on Sam Smith’s vocals at all interestingly enough, and they sit on the build as the rest of the track propels into the next stratosphere as every Flume track tends to do. The last minute and a half could even be another rendition of “Lay Me Down” entirely, as it shifts into a futuristic R&B tinged rhythm and chops up Sam’s vocals into a pining chant. Needless to say, this is another winner courtesy of Harvey. He’s even announced some new tour dates, so be sure to check out if he is coming to your city on his website!

[Deep House] Freddy Verano – Moments (feat. SAM SMITH)

Sam Smith prod. by Freddy Verano
Moments (Official Radio Edit)

Holy moly! German DJ/producer Freddy Verano just released a collaborative track featuring the almighty Sam Smith! Words cannot describe how excited we are for this new tune, especially since the British vocal master hasn’t come out with anything new in a while. This time around, Freddy Verano took an interesting turn featuring Sam Smith’s vocals in this deep house goodness. His sharp vocals shine throughout the song and take the spotlight without a doubt, but the upbeat style and sustained melody definitely showcase a new side of Sam Smith. The piano chords mix perfectly into the fast-paced house beat without overshadowing the vocals, while keeping it classic Sam Smith as his accompaniment.

It’s one of those songs that you’re not sure what to think of it after hearing it for the first time, but can’t stop pressing the replay button after a while. This one is going to be a banger for sure, so stay tuned for more!

[Deep-House/Garage] Sam Smith – La La La (Eric David Remix)

La La La (ERIC DAVID REMIX)

Every once in a while, a tune will surface seemingly out of the blue, only to steal your ears and heart in the process, while leaving you all the more bewildered as to how said track made its way onto your listening palate in the first place. Such was the case with upstart Denver producer Eric David’s remix of the highly infectious Sam Smith cut “La La La”, which unexpectedly cropped up in our Soundcloud feed this morning. The clearly adept producer rolls this one out behind a deep four-four kick drum and chopped version of the “La La La” vocal hook before ushering in the first wave of groovy synth behind a classic piano line. And, as if we all didn’t know, Sam Smith’s moldable reverberations echo exquisitely through David’s reworked instrumentation including some shufflin’ and jackin’ hi-hats. Not much is known about Eric David at the moment, but you can grab the free download here, and we’ll be on the lookout to see what else the future holds for this unexpected house spark plug, especially behind our first taste.

Latch (DJ Premier Remix)

The burst of music released over the holidays has commenced and, of all the tunes under the tree, Disclosure‘s upcoming Settle remix album has us especially excited. Today, after an impressive first glimpse, the UK-based electronic duo let loose the highly anticipated rework of “Latch” by legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier. While the original is an addicting masterpiece in itself, Premier slows the tempo down and adds a D’Angelo-esque piano melody with steady percussion making for a new-age take on the classic R&B of the 90s. The Settle remix album drops December 17th.

[Remix] Naughty Boy – La La La (Feat. Sam Smith) (Komi & JL Remix)

Naughty Boy
La La La (Komi and JL remix) (feat. Sam Smith)

It’s been a little over a month since we completely fell in love with Naughty Boy‘s “La La La.” With its brisk vocals and charming melody the infectious tune instantly captivated our attention and catapulted to the top of our playlists. This blissful remix from Komi and Jerry “JL” Lang brings back many of the same elements we enjoyed the first time around. As a co-producer of the original version, Komi strips down a few layers to provide us with a rawer, yet more enchanting soundscape. Crooner Sam Smith’s vocals are emphasized to an even deeper extent, allowing the listener to truly appreciate the passion behind his lyrics. If you enjoyed this new revision of the track as much as we did, make sure to grab a free download above. Also, stay tuned for Naughty Boy’s debut album, Hotel Cabana, which will be in stores later this year.

[R&B/Pop] Naughty Boy – La La La (Feat. Sam Smith)

Naughty Boy
La La La (feat. Sam Smith)

“La La La” is probably one of the most universally recognized phrases in all of music. It can be used as a replacement for almost any term, express any mood, and it resonates with nearly everyone. Because of that it seems like it’s used in just about every song, and almost every artist has at least one song using it as a title. Despite its widespread use however, British producers Naughty Boy and Komi are seemingly able to breathe new life into the term. As a sucker for anything with a Bollywood vibe, Naughty’s keen sample caught my ear right away, but it was the soulful vocals of Sam Smith that kept my attention on this wonderful pop tune. “La La La” is just the second single from Naughty Boy’s upcoming Hotel Cabana project, with the first being “Wonder” featuring Emeli Sandé.
