[Hip-Hop] Mac Miller – Melt (feat. ScHoolboy Q) (prod. Pete Rock)

’Mac Miller – Melt (feat. ScHoolboy Q) (prod. Pete Rock)’
’Mac Miller – The Star Room  (OG VERSION)’

Mac Miller took to his twitter a few minutes ago to casually let loose an incredible previously unreleased cut that features production from the legendary Pete Rock and a ScHoolboy Q guest verse. “Melt” has a jazzy summer groove to it with layered piano melodies, an addicting bassline and a humming vocal loop. Mac’s goofy flow shines over the lush backdrop and, although we are not accustomed to laid back verses from Q, the TDE emcee switches things up for some smooth, creative bars.

Mac’s most recent album, Watching Movies With the Sound Offwas released exactly a year ago and the SoundCloud description for “Melt” reads ‘movies we didn’t watch’ suggesting it just missed the cut for that project. Earlier today, as further celebration of the album anniversary, Mac also released the original version of the opening song“The Star Room,” which strips down the production completely transforming its tone into a relaxed, introspective one. Check out both of these unique, surprise releases above.

[NEW] Ab-Soul – Hunnid Stax (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Ab-Soul
Hunnid Stax Ft. ScHoolboy Q

Ab-Souls long-anticipated sophomore album is set to drop in two weeks and, earlier today, the LA-based emcee unleashed a dope track featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment representative, Schoolboy Q“Hunnid Stax” opens with Soul stating, “people treat you real nice when you’ve got $50 draws on” before the menacing, hazy production of Kenny Beats takes a hold.

While the title suggests a stereotypical rap song about money, reminiscent of Odd Future’s recent skit, fans of Ab-Soul’s first album, Control System, will recognize the implied irony in his bars. ScHoolboy Q’s gritty vocals could not fit the beat better and Mac Miller contributes a brief chorus of sorts that helps add to the mischievous vibe. Enjoy this one above and keep an eye out for These Days…, which drops on June 24th.

[Hip-Hop] ScHoolboy Q – Break the Bank (Prod. Alchemist)

ScHoolboy Q
Break the Bank (prod. Alchemist)

It is no secret Top Dawg Entertainment‘s Black Hippy is going to have an enormous year in 2014 with all four members planning to drop albums. ScHoolboy Q‘s Oxymoron will be the first out, on February 25th, and has all the makings of one of one of the strongest hip-hop albums in recent memory. A few minutes ago, the Compton emcee let loose the album artwork (deluxe above) along with a stellar new song titled “Break the Bank.” With the legendary Alchemist behind the boards, ScHoolboy shows incredible range and versatility absolutely destroying the instrumental. Q even goes so far as bringing up some friendly competition with fellow TDE spitter Kendrick Lamar, and if this track is any indication of the album, he very well may be giving GKMC a run for its money trees. You can pre-order Oxymoron on iTunes now.

While EDM Trap has become increasingly saturated in 2013, artists like Lunice, of the pioneering duo TNGHT, continue to display the genre’s potential to bridge the gap between electronic music and hip-hop. The latest track from the Montreal-based producer, “Stay Flexin,” serves as a prime example of this synergy with its uniquely hard-hitting 808 percussion that begs for emcee accompaniment–a ScHoolboy Q verse would fit perfectly. This gem is part of LuckyMe’s advent calendar, which offers free downloads for every day of this month.  Peep above and, if you’re up for it, give a quick freestyle a try!

[Hip-Hop] ScHoolboy Q – Banger (MOSHPIT)

Banger (MOSHPIT)

After reaching mainstream success with the infectious ‘Collard Greens’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, TDE rapper Schoolboy Q drops his second single, “Banger (MOSHPIT).” The follow-up track finds the west coast emcee invoking some violence and warns of forming a mosh as he spits over the renegades produced beat. Different from his previous hit, this new single has a more turned down beat and old school feel that focuses more on Q’s lyrical prowess over the mic. His aggressive rhymes and gritty beat makes for a head-nodding listen as he looks to incite reckless behavior nationwide by calling out select cities across the country for ‘being on that bullsh!t’. Take a listen to the newest track off his upcoming debut Oxymoron, dropping soon.

Yay Yay (Prod. by Boi-1da)

Black Hippy‘s ScHoolboy Q is preparing to release his debut album with Interscope Records later this year and today we are blessed with what appears to be the first single. As we have come to expect from Q, he delivers with gritty rhymes regarding mature material in a way that is refreshingly ratchet. The thumping, disorienting producing of Boi-1da perfectly matches Q’s style making “Yay Yay” an absolute banger. We’ve already got one classic album from a Black Hippy member in Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d. City, and ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron is looking to have what it takes to be yet another with a completely different sound. I can only really describe this song in the words of Q, “YAK! YAK! YAK!”
