[Video/Chill/House] Sebastian Carter – Stranger Sights (Feat. Henry Green)

Sebastian Carter
Stranger Sights (feat. Henry Green)

Sebastian Carter has graced the pages of TMN multiple times behind a smooth and emotive brand of house remixes, but this time the Swiss born producer is back and armed with a beautiful original record featuring an ethereal vocal contribution from budding UK troubadour Henry Green. “Stranger Sights” executes a succinct hi-hat shuffle plucked right out of NYC’s Paradise Garage brand of late 80’s dance music; but rather than a jacking house vibe at its core, there lies a very seductive and melodic heartbeat to the tune. Henry Green, whose vocals we had never heard before, casts an even more soothing aesthetic onto “Stranger Sights” with his reverb treated crooning, and behind those beautifully coalescing elements, this one quickly took the place as our favorite Sebastian Carter tune. As an added bonus, the visually stimulating music video plays just as well as the track does aurally. The pair teamed up with rising photographer/videographer Jack Toohey, who had this to day about the project: “I was inspired by the mysterious quality of the song, I immediately pictured aimless wandering on a cold night. Picking up on lyrics like ‘retrace my steps, ‘wasting time’… That feeling of being out dancing until 3am – every things a bit of a blur – dangerous thoughts like ‘in the hope  that i’ll be yours again’ start slipping back into your mind. I guess it’s just trying to capture that feeling and that mystique of the hours before dawn.”  We think both the song and video nailed it. Stream “Stranger Sights” above (which you can download for free on his Soundcloud), and check out the official music video after the jump.

[Deep-House] Bimbo Jones & Beverly Knight – I Found Out (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Bimbo Jones & Beverley Knight
I Found Out (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Sebastian Carter‘s remixes have been stealing our ears with each and every passing release. After authoring up an excellent remix for Local Natives a few weeks ago, the Swiss melodic house wunderkind returns to TMN with a deep and lovely take on production duo Bimbo Jones’ collaboration with ‘Queen of British Soul’ Beverly Knight  “I Found Out”. Rather than play within the often formulaic confines of house music structure, Carter renounces the DJ friendly 4/4 kick-drum intro on his latest offering, instead sculpting its base off of an airy synth line backed by a muted piano stab which takes its listener by hand directly to the first bridge. Beverly Knight’s vocal gets tempered down to mostly high reaching incantations and the hypnotic and sexy hook of “I Found Out” which loops beautifully amongst quite the dancey groove. Ultimately though, our single favorite moments comes after Sebastian Carter’s wonderfully crafted build drops into a classic U.K. house breakdown, and by then we were so consumed in our dance moves anyways, it was simply the icing on a very complex electronic cake. Sebastian Carter’s remix for “I Found Out” can be purchased on Beatport through Radikal Records here, but for now why don’t you just stream it above on repeat.

[Chill/House] Local Natives – Ceilings (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Local Natives
Ceilings (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Swiss producer Sebastian Carter’s name is one deeply resonant within the confines of TMN, and at only 19 years of age his production potential flashes a limitless quality. As we’ve seen a recent shift in the underground from much of the harder and grimier dance sounds, more melody driven electronic artists like Sebastian Carter are carving out an educated and loyal following; especially behind tracks like his latest remix of Local Natives‘ “Ceilings”. The tune kicks off with a four-four kick and washy vocal pad leading into the  hypnotic reverberations of Taylor Rice which gracefully span across Carter’s soundscape in perfect harmony. You really just can’t help but lose yourself in its beauty, which is immediately why our Ninja faithful must share in that feeling as well. [Chill/Deep-House] Felon – Isla (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Felon
Isla (Sebastian Carter Remix)

We first had the chance to feature Sebastian Carter‘s sultry approach to house back in October on the always amazing Chill Dojo (Vol. 58), and in the time since, we’ve had the pleasure of gifting his music to our Ninja contingency multiple times, most recently with an excellent remix of Emily Underhill’s “Ghost”. Today the 19 year-old Swiss virtuoso delivered another slow-burning, eloquent and expressive remix, this time of Felon‘s hollowy synth-pop single “Isla”. Carter utilizes the fine tuning of the original’s poppier elements and disperses them evenly amongst a highly textured backdrop of lush pads, elaborate percussion and Felon’s slick vocal track. The resulting sound is certainly as methodically addictive as it is beautiful, and it more than warranted a trip down our front page today. In keeping with Seb Carter’s magnanimous music personality, this deep-house groover is being offered up by the teenage wunderkind for the online currency of one “like” on Facebook here, so go ahead and add this one to your weekly playlists.
