Following Ta-Ku‘s Songs to Break Up To, the Australian artist of multiple mediums took some time away from music to express himself through other avenues, particularly stunning photography and hilarious Snapchats. Much to the delight of fans, Ta-Ku’s ready to craft sonic beauties once again with his upcoming, aptly-titled Songs to Make Up To. After the last stunning, JMSN and Sango-featuring single, “Love Again,” he’s back with another gem from the project this time teaming up with Atu, a master of downtempo, heart-wrenching production.

On “Long Time No See,” the two slow-jam connoisseurs draw you in with deeply emotional piano and a signature Atu vocal sample. When combined with steady head-nodding, hand-clapping percussion, the track fully immerses the listener into an unmatchably calm soundscape. Once you’ve been fully drawn in, a soothing bass vibration ties everything together melting away pain and stress.

Ta-Ku recently gave a TEDx talk in Sydney where he discussed his artistic journey and the reason for his hiatus from music. Unsurprisingly, Songs to Break Up To was written after a heartbreak in his own life leaving him at a loss for musical expression after its release. In his talk, he discusses how he coped with this by turning to other creative outlets before finally being ready to put his upcoming project together–it’s sounding like it’ll be well worth the wait. Childish Gambino has been on a roll the last few weeks as he prepares for the December 10th release of his second album, Because of the Internet. Earlier today, Bino re-tweeted a status from actor Michael B. Jordan, of The Wire and Fruitvale Station, that included the dreamy “Telegraph Ave.” and a remix from up and coming producer Ta-Ku. While we saw the higher-energy, punchline-heavy Childish on “Sweatpants”, he showcases his singing chops over floating, synth-heavy production only rapping briefly, but effectively, around the 2-minute mark. The title of the song refers to a main street that covers multiple cities, including Oakland, within the East Bay Area. While pure speculation, it seems possible that Michael B. Jordan’s recent role as Oakland’s Oscar Grant in Fruitvale Station has some thing to do with the way it was released.

While the original is a treat in itself, the Ta-Ku remix might be the true gem of this release. The Huh What & Where affiliated artist puts a beautiful twist on the track chopping, and distorting, the vocals and speeding things up a bit with a variety of unique percussion.

The Trap Dojo #48 [MP3 Playlist]

Starting off this weeks Trap Dojo we got a massive remix from Ta-ku of The Aston Shuffle‘s track “Can’t Stop”, and it’s sure to be on repeat all summer long. Next is another summer time anthem from DJ Snake, and he throws his own spin on Aluna George‘s mesmerizing track “You Know You Like It”. Kill Paris running the trap? HugLife dropped an Edit of Tiesto & MOTi‘s track “Back To The Acid”, and he tweaks it in all the right ways. Butch Clancy remixed Candyland‘s track “Castle Of Affair” and brings some filthy laser infused synth work. Yet another DJ Snake remix, this time he tackles Duck Sauce‘s glorious track, “It’s You”. The second half features some Love Trap tunes from Rustie, CRNKN, Mr. Carmack, K Theory, BeazyTymes, and Falcons. Cheers.
