[Video] Point Blank Educates On History Of Techno

Over the past several years, the dance music producer has taken hold as the new rock star. People were jumping at the opportunity to enter into producing music as its ease of access allowed for many who previously were unable, to now begin creating. Some of those people went to schools to learn, or perused through tutorials online. One of the best institutions who partake in both types of classes is Point Blank.

Voted as the best electronic music school, Point Blank is a staple in the electronic music education system. They are a go to source for nearly everything, including the history of dance music. They recently put out part one of their video series in regards to techno. In it James Wiltshire goes over the history of the genre, as well as some sound design techniques to get people started in creating techno.

This video is just the tip of the iceberg as far as Point Blank’s catalog is concerned. With a seemingly infinite amount of online materials, as well as locations in Los Angeles and London, Point Blank has what you need whether you’re a beginner, an expert, or just someone who is looking to learn some interesting things about dance music.

[Techno/House] Wehbba – Trust

Wehbba
Trust

Brazilian-based producer Wehbba released his new bundle of singles with Stay Right this month. There’s one track in particular that especially stands out among the rest, and that’s the track “Trust.” Wehbba has been producing techno and techno/house fusion works that have made our ears perk up in the recent years. His tracks, like most techno, have a drive to them that would hook anyone who listens. But with his new track “Trust,” the level of pull is so much more real.

The tune begins with a little guitar sample that’s reminiscent of something old Sonny boy of Skrillex would have produced as an intro back in his Bangarang days, and we were very curious to see where the track would go. It sounded far from a techno track in the beginning actually. But then, the vocal sample begins to slowly crescendo in until its peak drops a techno/house bass beat that comes in like a tsunami that totally wipes away the vocals for the next few measures, leaving you drowning in a techno wonderland. If you were at a festival on the outskirts of a crowd, contemplating going and getting a bucket of crab fries at that delicious stand, this drop would make any techno lover about-face and walk on beat right back to the center of the crowd like a champion.

And that, friends, is where we leave you. In the middle of the techno pit with Wehbba.

Loud Places (feat. Romy) [Eekkoo Edit]

If you haven’t already checked out Jammie xx’s latest release, “Loud Places,” featuring the vocals of the xx’s Romy Craft, you may want to hop on that. The original production, both exquisite and mysterious, embodies such a profoundness that it’s pretty questionable as to why anyone would want to remix it. But that is before you listen to Eekkoo’s edit. He makes sure not to damage any of the song’s existing beauty by working around the melody and craftsmanship, only by adding in a subtle beat that continues throughout the entire duration of the track. The product is a club-compatible version with a hint of a techno feel that you’ll put on repeat for days.

[Tech/Booty-House] Will Raidle – Be Mine [TMN Premiere]

Will Raidle
Be Mine (Original Mix)

At TMN, we’ve always prided ourselves on unearthing new talents at the point of their humble inception, and following their career arc; much like a high-level athletic scout discovers a hot prospect, watches them develop into their true potential and can’t help but feeling just a little like they had a hand in their rise to the top. Today, our newest discovery comes in the form of Techno and House producer Will Raidle who arrives armed with his debut release “Be Mine”. Raidle’s booty-house groover kicks off into a sea of shuffled hi-hats and thumping kick drum before an unmistakable vocal, from La Bouche’s Eurodance anthem “Be My Lover”, which gets superbly spliced and cut into a haunting and vital piece of the tune, sidles in to fuel its listeners’ dance moves. Rounding out his sophisticated compositional dance structure on “Be Mine” lies a simple sticky synth line which wrapped its way around this writer’s brain so heavily it warranted multiple replays as soon we heard it played through once. Will Raidle has been creating a healthy bit of buzz in his home city of Denver as well, being billed with some of the hottest names in underground dance including Claude Von Stroke,  Soul Clap, Kidnap Kid, J. Phlip, Worthy and loads more, which is why we were so excited for a proper release from the promising young producer. “Be Mine” is being given away through digital house imprint Night Supply in exchange for a measly Facebook “like”, so hop to it here and listen above.

Hard and scary techno, possible?

romboramacover_lo_res_

When I go to see a scary movie, most of the times it does not even get me chills. I am not scared of heights, I am not scared of the dark, closed places, spiders, bugs nothing of that sort… however, I find it bizarre that every time I listen to the new song from The Bloody Beetroots “Butter” I feel a little strange. A very dark scary tone with great electronic/techno roots perfect for partying on Halloween night.

These tracks, along with a heap of brand new gems will make up The Beetroots’ highly anticipated debut album, Romborama. out August 25th on Dim Mak Records.
