[Chill] Teen Daze – A World Away (EP)

2015 is already shaping up to be a great year of music. Teen Daze is back! With A World Away, he continues on a path of masterfully crafted, ambient instrumental pieces that perfectly supplement the cold winter months we’re currently sitting in. When it comes to Teen Daze, even with his remixes, he approaches his music more with the mind of a composer than just a producer, which is extremely evident in songs like “Reykjavik, January 2015” and “I Feel God In The Water.” The overall atmosphere of his latest EP centers on, and perfectly exemplifies, the idea of utter escape, finding a calm center, and creating a chance to truly relax in the midst of the constant noise and stress we experience every day.

This EP is hauntingly beautiful–juggling the balance of a command of space, environmental elements, and cathartic resolves throughout that weave an intricate tapestry of sound with minimal piano and textbook Teen Daze ambience. If you find yourself in need of clearing your head, A World Away will be one of this year’s best ways to do so. Support the new project on Bandcamp, sink into somewhere comfortable, zone out and enjoy the stream below.

[Chill] Edwarde Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Life is Hard (Teen Daze Remix)

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Life Is Hard (Teen Daze Remix)

The hippie-inspired collective that is Edwarde Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is always a great change of pace for those looking for something more organic and free spirited. While their music does not generally lend itself to the more electronic remixes, Vancouver-based producer Teen Daze has managed to flip the emotional “Life is Hard” into a 6-minute airy and ambient masterpiece. The remix features an extended intro using only a brief soundbyte of the original and it’s not until the three minute mark that the vocals of Alex Ebert make a brief, warped appearance. Despite a drastically different sound, this rework seems to communicate a similar sentiment as Ed Sharpe’s original.

Teen Daze’s take on “Life is Hard” floats along with only a subtle build-up creating a surreal ambiance perfect for zoning out the perils of your week. Enjoy and grab a free download of this meditative track above.

[Electronica] Japandroids- Wet Hair (Teen Daze Remix)

20120228-083820.jpg

What I love most about Teen Daze is that he is consistently putting out great remixes like its second nature. His remix of Japandroids‘ “Wet Hair” is a perfect example of this.

The grungy sound of the garage rock original almost sounds like the name of the band who created it- huge, clanky, Japandroids destroying Tokyo while they try to write a love song. It’s lo fi and catchy, but Teen Daze really cleans it up by taking that fuzzy lead guitar and chopping the part and letting the vocals fill out the background.

Like Inception, he plants the repetitive vocal idea in your head to make the track memorable. That’s where the Inception analogy ends, though, so of you wake up and in a plane with Leonardo DiCaprio it’s just a coincidence… Right?
