[Future] Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (feat. Timbaland) (PLS&TY Remix)

Nelly Furtado
Promiscuous (feat. Timbaland) (PLS&TY Remix)

Talk about dope; PLS&TY‘s new remix is that good good. From the get go, the remix of “Promiscuous” isn’t bashful at all. A spunky beat bumps along as the two vocalists dish it back and forth in their flirtatious manner. After the groove settles, things build up to a drop into a solid future style chorus. His melody is contagious, and the flow out back into the bridge is as smooth as can be despite the contrast. PLS&TY plays with your emotions the whole way through, which just might have you kicking back with this on repeat. We certainly have, especially since it’s a free download that you can take anywhere!

[NEW] Timbaland – Know Bout Me (Feat. Jay-Z, Drake & James Fauntleroy)

Timbaland
Know About Me (Feat. Jay-Z, Drake & James Fauntleroy)

After alluding to this track awhile back, mega-producer Timbaland drops a brand new single featuring Drake and Jay-Z. The single, titled “Know Bout Me,” is a monster collaboration and very reminiscent of classic Timbo from the 90’s with heavy hitting bass and rim rattling studio effects. It seems the beef is squashed between the rapper and producer and now we get the aftermath of the make-up. At first listen, it definitely takes some getting used to as Timbo abandons the synth beats and electro rhythms for a more throwback flow. That might be something that new fans are not used to but still is just as good as his previous hits. With the addition of Drizzy and Hov delivering some dope verses and James Faunterloy crooning on the hook, this is a nice taste of what is to come from the Virginia native.

If you are feeling nostalgic, take a listen to the first single off his upcoming full length Textbook Timbo, and be sure to grab a copy when it hits iTunes December 3rd.

[Hip-Hop] Jay-Z – Open Letter Pt. II (Feat. Common)

JAY Z
Open Letter Pt. II Feat. Common

Jay-Z made headlines last week when he unveiled his “Open Letter” to the world. While the song was meant to tackle all the scrutiny surrounding Hov, it ironically created even more controversy when a few lines about President Obama forced The White House to provide some answers about his trip to Cuba. Blessing the record for part two is another artist whose close association with the President has caused some problems in the past. While the issue in question happened nearly two years ago, Common wants to let us know he still hasn’t forgotten the insults spewed at him during that tumultuous period. Let’s see if anything sprouts up as a result of this iteration of the track.

Open Letter

Images recently surfaced of Jay-Z, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz all working together in the studio. As it turns out, they were helping Mr. Carter pen an “Open Letter.” With this new track, Hov approaches some recent issues the only way he knows how: by addressing them head on. He covers topics ranging from his recent anniversary trip to Cuba, to the sale of his stock in the Brooklyn Nets, and even chilling with President Obama. This doesn’t seem like it will live on any forthcoming album from Jay, as it really just serves a reminder to everyone why he’s on top.

[Album Review] Justin Timberlake – 20/20 Experience

They say that with age comes experience and with Justin Timberlake‘s new album 20/20 Experience, he shows that he is wise beyond his years. After over a six-year hiatus, the 32-year-old singer flexes his 20+ years in the music industry over a wide array of genre-hopping, mature tunes. Allowing some time to pass, Timberlake teams up with hit-maker producer/writer Timbaland and Harmon to recapture the same magic that made his previous two multi-platinum efforts so successful.

After falsely announcing that Timberlake was not going to return to the music industry and focus on his booming acting career, he surprised fans by dropping the infectious “Suit & Tie”. The lead single is a progressive, yet retro track that mixes genres and eras. Opening with a chopped-and-screwed vibe, Timberlake quickly switches to a Marvin Gaye-esque falsetto as he smoothly croons over a mix of percussion and studio synths. With the addition of a sophisticated, grown and sex hip-hop  verse from Jay-Z, this tune set up the tone for the majority of the album and the new sound of the “Future sex/Love Songs” singer.

[NEW] Justin Timberlake – Mirrors (Prod. Timbaland)

Mere hours after his stellar performance at the 2013 Grammy’s, Justin Timberlake drops the latest single from his comeback album, The 20/20 Experience. “Mirrors” features Timberlake & Timbaland rekindling some of the same magic we first witnessed during their golden years. In true JT fashion, the 8 minute song is essentially split into two parts. The song begins with a pleading Timberlake belting out declarations of love to his other half, while the second half slows things down for a more downtempo ballad. This is more along the lines of what we expected when JT first announced his return. “Mirrors” is available now on iTunes. Make sure to also welcome Justin back by pre-ordering The 20/20 Experience, available March 19th.

[R&B] Justin Timberlake – Suit & Tie (Feat. Jay-Z) (Prod. Timbaland)

Justin Timberlake‘s been away from music for awhile now (over six years to be exact), so when he announced his comeback, it’s needless to say that he turned a few heads. Now that we have our first taste though, it seems a little bitter. With the first single off of his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience, it seems clear that JT is still just shaking the rust off and trying to acclimate himself to this new age of music. “Suit & Tie” brings together some diverse sounds, starting things off with a slowed down, chopped-and-screwed chorus, before resurrecting some of the old Timberlake experience we’re used to. The eclectic and occasionally hectic instrumental was crafted by frequent collaborator Timbaland, with Jay-Z adding in a pretty solid verse as well to wrap things up. Overall, the song doesn’t live up to its expectations, though it might never have in any form. Regardless, we’re all still excited to see what Timberlake has for us in 2013 and welcome him back to the music business. Hopefully, he’ll be able to duplicate the same success he had years ago that had us all pining for his return.
