[NEW] Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly (Album Stream)

In a strange turn of events, Kendrick Lamar‘s highly anticipated album is now available on Spotify and iTunes.  Top Dawg Entertainment label boss Anthony Tiffith sent out a few tweets after the album mysteriously appeared suggesting that the surprise drop was a mistake. Accident or not, though, it’s really great to hear what Kendrick’s been working on since his instant classic debut studio album. While Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City told the story of a young Kendrick, To Pimp A Butterfly sees a composed, mature and confident Lamar delivering organic funk & soul-inspired new age hip-hop. Although we’ll want some more time with it, we’re loving what we’ve heard thus far. Check out the Spotify stream below or head to iTunes to pick up a digital copy. It will be interesting to see how this rollout unfolds as more information on what actually happened becomes available. Regardless, we’re more than excited about the new music. Continue reading

[NEW] Ab-Soul – Hunnid Stax (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Ab-Soul
Hunnid Stax Ft. ScHoolboy Q

Ab-Souls long-anticipated sophomore album is set to drop in two weeks and, earlier today, the LA-based emcee unleashed a dope track featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment representative, Schoolboy Q“Hunnid Stax” opens with Soul stating, “people treat you real nice when you’ve got $50 draws on” before the menacing, hazy production of Kenny Beats takes a hold.

While the title suggests a stereotypical rap song about money, reminiscent of Odd Future’s recent skit, fans of Ab-Soul’s first album, Control System, will recognize the implied irony in his bars. ScHoolboy Q’s gritty vocals could not fit the beat better and Mac Miller contributes a brief chorus of sorts that helps add to the mischievous vibe. Enjoy this one above and keep an eye out for These Days…, which drops on June 24th.

[Hip-Hop] SZA – Babylon (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

SZA
Babylon feat. Kendrick Lamar

Just a day away from the release of her debut album, SZA keeps the buzz high letting loose a track featuring her fellow Top Dawg Entertainment  signee Kendrick Lamar. “Babylon” fits nicely with the tracks we have already heard from the project as SZA displays her uniquely airy sound over mellow, but heavy instrumental from DJ Dahi, the producer of a number of recent hits including “My Type of Party.” As expected, Kendrick delivers an amazing verse delving into the themes of introspection and solitude initially introduced by SZA. Enjoy this track above and look for on iTunes tomorrow.

[Hip-Hop] ScHoolboy Q – Break the Bank (Prod. Alchemist)

ScHoolboy Q
Break the Bank (prod. Alchemist)

It is no secret Top Dawg Entertainment‘s Black Hippy is going to have an enormous year in 2014 with all four members planning to drop albums. ScHoolboy Q‘s Oxymoron will be the first out, on February 25th, and has all the makings of one of one of the strongest hip-hop albums in recent memory. A few minutes ago, the Compton emcee let loose the album artwork (deluxe above) along with a stellar new song titled “Break the Bank.” With the legendary Alchemist behind the boards, ScHoolboy shows incredible range and versatility absolutely destroying the instrumental. Q even goes so far as bringing up some friendly competition with fellow TDE spitter Kendrick Lamar, and if this track is any indication of the album, he very well may be giving GKMC a run for its money trees. You can pre-order Oxymoron on iTunes now.
