[Get Crunk] Friday Party Playlist (Vol 233)

Turn up this Friday evening with some of the best free downloads we could get our hands on. There were plenty of them, but we narrowed them down to a dozen that we thought would fit the mood this cold Friday night. Songs this week come to us from HU₵₵I, KRANE, BIJOU, Bear Grillz x Terravita, KANDY and more. We close things out with a major collaboration between Troyboi and Stooki Sound that we’ve been jamming to since it’s release day. All twelve are must listens and must haves, with genres ranging from future bass to house to dubstep and hip-hop. Run through them all and grab the ones you like. Enjoy your night and most importantly #danceirresponsibly.

[Event Preview] BUKU Music & Arts Project March 10-11

buku2017-4x6

Every city in America has its own music scene, but in New Orleans, music is a way of life – a cultural infrastructure as essential to the city as its freeways and French Quarter. Jazzfest attracts the best in rock, folk and jazz to NOLA each year, but for those of us who want more youthful, visceral music and a more colorful, fluid experience, BUKU Music and Arts Project goes down on March 10-11, 2016 for the sixth year straight.

BUKU stands out in a saturated music festival market both for its timing (arguably the first big event of “festival season”) and it’s consistently nuanced lineup. No one is reinventing the wheel by stacking their lineup with hip-hop, indie, and dance music, but whom are you booking specifically? It takes balls and creativity to craft a card of eclectic, forward-thinking and often experimental artists like what BUKU has assembled. Where else can you see Deadmau5 and Travis Scott? Clams Casino and Troyboi? Shiba San and Thundercat? If you’ve answered, “I can see them at Festival XYZ,” it doesn’t matter, because that’s not in New Orleans.

BUKU is set just outside the city’s French Quarter on a sprawling riverside esplanade. The Power Plant stage is adjacent to the river and sits in the shadow of an abandoned industrial colossus. Two indoor stages diversify the vibe with The Ballroom offering an intimate aesthetic, and the Float Den serving as a massive gathering spot lined with Mardi Gras floats and craft vendors. A fourth stage, the Back Alley, is tucked beneath the Crescent City Connection bridge and offers an unbroken stream of dance music all day and into the night.

[Future] Troyboi & Diplo – Afterhours Ft. Nina Sky (Sharps X Convex Remix)

Troyboi & Diplo
Afterhours Ft. Nina Sky (Sharps X Convex Remix)

Seattle’s Sharps and Convex of LA partner up to take on the single “Afterhours” by Troyboi and Diplo. Their free remix is an awe-striking future bass production that is not your run of the mill record. Sensational synths pierce the speakers alongside the sweet vocal from Nina Sky. Sometimes songs of this style keep things too light, but these two producers make sure to bring big 808’s and manage to keep things thick and juicy. Their take on “Afterhours” is one the chiller side, but it still has energy and groove, making it a track that can hold it’s own at festivals. Anytime you try and take on a Diplo original, it’s a tough thing, but Sharps and Convex pull it off without a hitch. If you didn’t know Sharps or Convex already, this is one hell of an intro to these talents.

[Trap] TroyBoi & Father Dude – Spirits Of The Night

Spirits Of The Night

TroyBoi and Father Dude never release bad records, never. Together they are one of the best dynamic duos in dance music. Their track together “Spirits Of The Night,” is one of the coolest records of the year. They keep things on the more downtempo side for a soft trap track. Both acts are not afraid to experiment, which they certainly do here, and the result pays off. It’s one of those tracks that you pop in your headphones, turn on repeat and just lose yourself in the composition. It’s Summer, so a lot of “bangers” are being released, so it’s nice to get a change of pace from two of the best out there. “Spirits Of The Night” has been released as a limited time free download, so hurry up and grab it for yourself!
