[House] The Chainsmokers – Closer ft. Halsey (Viceroy Remix)

The Chainsmokers
Closer ft. Halsey (Viceroy Remix)

Summer time’s favorite producer Viceroy is back with another amazing remix. We know, you don’t want to hear another damn flip of The Chainsmokers x Halsey’s “Closer.” We didn’t either. But, we did see Viceroy came out with one, and we had to let our guard down. We were not disappointed.

From the start we get hit with out of the box samples that bring us back to some of our favorite records, along with an intoxicating percussive groove. Pleasant piano chords and funky guitar riffs also contribute to the strong introduction that holds your attention without quivering. At no moment do you want to skip this one. The intro builds into the drop where Viceroy takes us on a bustling breakbeat ride that is simply magnificent. Viceroy has put out some of our favorite tracks, so it’s no surprise he swayed us on this “Closer” remix. Get it for free today!

[House] Viceroy – Next Escape feat. Patrick Baker

VICEROY
Next Escape ft. Patrick Baker

It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is for Viceroy, because his attitude is that it’s Summer time all the time. Right now, the weather is indeed warming up as we move towards Summer and Viceroy has planned something big. Leading up into most everyone’s favorite season, the San Francisco producer will be on the road for his Next Escape tour. Aside from that, he’s dishing out a new EP, and today we share with you a single from it.

“Next Escape” is the title track off of Viceroy’s upcoming EP, and as you just read, it is the name of his May to June tour. This original single features Patrick Baker on vocals whose poppy sound really jives with Viceroy’s tropical sensibilities. He doesn’t go all Thomas Jack on us, as he has his own identity and sound that is a bit more accessible to a varied audience. The use of acoustic elements packed into a house production is one thing that really gives “Next Escape” a unique sound. If Viceroy was looking to make 3 and a half minutes of sonic bliss, he certainly succeeded. Stream his single, prepare for the EP, and make sure to check out his upcoming tour dates in case he’s coming to a venue near you.

[Festival Review] Moments & Songs from Treasure Island 2015–SF, 10/17-18

DNP_5253It’s particularly sad to say goodbye to Treasure Island Music Festival. Not only does TI mark the end of the summer festival season, but it’s also a true breathe of fresh air from the oft-overwhelming mega events that have come to dominate the space. With relief from the typical pains of festivals –trouble meeting friends, overcrowded stages, set conflicts and the list goes on–we always walk out of TI refreshed and this year was no exception. Overlooking the San Francisco skyline, Treasure Island’s serenity never fails to amaze us and it didn’t hurt that the weather was pretty much perfect all weekend.

The clear-split lineup that highlighted electronic/hip-hop on Saturday and alternative rock/pop on Sunday gave each day a vibe all its own. Take a trip back with photos and songs from the two different, but equally enjoyable, days.

’Music Ninja Radio #11 – Treasure Island Preview’

Welcome back, October.

Festival season has officially wound down to a close and we Californians are bundling up for another frigid winter – which may eventually dip into the 50s (gasp!).

Music fans near and far look toward cloudy skies and feel a deep nostalgia for carefree summer days spent romping through fairgrounds from Detroit to San Diego to Washington to Chicago and even here in San Francisco. Fortunately, there is one last hurrah every year to hold us over: Treasure Island Music Festival.

[Electronic] Giraffage & Viceroy – Impression of You (feat. Patrick Baker)

Giraffage & Viceroy
Impression Of You (feat. Patrick Baker)

Producer collaborations tend to take on one of two forms–either composers go back-and-forth transitioning between styles or they blend their techniques to create something completely novel. In the case of Giraffage and Viceroy‘s new single, released on Dim Mak Records, it’s most certainly the latter. “Impression of You” sees a collision of Giraffage’s playful, yet emotional, R&B-tinted steez and Viceroy’s jazzy, summery vibes for an enchanting tune. Giraffage’s signature synth-work and video-game inspired elements open the tune but once the track fills out Viceroy’s radiant style quickly emerges. The tune is tied together nicely by Patrick Baker, who’s name you may recognize from his recent Lane 8 collaboration. The wavey, chilled-out feeling of the song combined with Baker’s romantic crooning create an interesting combination–a sort of summer fling anthem.

P.S. If you dig Giraffage as much as we do, make sure to check out our interview with him from last year.

Viceroy (ft. K. Flay) – Back At The Start (Delusion Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Viceroy
Back At The Start (Delusion Remix)

We’re no stranger to Viceroy and his newest K. Flay assisted hit, “Back At The Start.” Today, however, we’re excited to show you a fairly fresh face that flipped the tune on its head into a smooth and futuristic groove. Delusion has remixed Oh Wonder and Odesza previously, which are equally as gorgeous and silky, so he isn’t afraid to tackle prime source material. This new endeavor knocks with purpose, but is balanced out by a softer side that sets itself apart from the original in the best way possible. It’s as strong as it is seductive, and every element across the song’s spectrum is dutifully placed with purpose and poise. Delusion has commanded his sound within only a few tracks, so there’s no telling how far he’ll be able to go. Give yourself a much needed break before the weekend hits with this stunning remix by Delusion, and be ready to hear his name around much more often.
