Summer is not all about being outdoors as the Black Eyed Peas “I Got A Feeling” has become a DJ’s best friend at almost every nightclub I have been too. The Barletta Remix takes it a couple of notches further to become one of the ultimate dance songs this summer.

Sweet and soothing, Zee Avi’s loving and innocent voice can wrap you up with her mellow song “Bitter Heart” and take you to better places. Her new self titled album Zee Avi was released May 19 of this year. Her popularity rose from posting a video on youtube that eventually caught on like wild fire which eventually led Brushfire Records (partly owned by Jack Johnson) to signed her.

Courtenay Green is an LA artist who has been performing regularly in Southern California for the past year. Her first EP, Mixed Message, was released in late 2008 and she will be releasing her new song, DEVIL IN THE DETAILS, on July 16th. New Spanish Category debuts with the Amazing Zoé

zoe
I am happy to announce that I will be opening up a new Spanish category on The Music Ninja (on the big red menubar you see up there ^^). I am discovering and rediscovering Spanish bands that due to my lack of initiative to listen to Spanish music in the past, was not aware of them. With that said, I present you an already popular alternative/psychedelic group from Mexico that goes by the name of Zoé. Although not very well known in the US, Zoé has been dominating in Latin America since the late 90s.

Their forth LP titled “Reptilectric” was released November of last year and opened at number one in the Mexican charts. They are mostly considered an alternative rock band that with their fearless pursuit of experimentation with their music, makes them come across as experimental and psychedelic. No two songs are alike and yet each song is executed with such bliss, incorporating a spectrum of music elements that reflect their ingenuity just as much as give light to why these guys are making so much noise in the Spanish genre. I loved their entire album from their heartfelt, mellow melodic song “Luna”, to their songs with heavier Spanish guitar influences like “Poli” to their single with a very trippy video “Reptilectric”. I am a little embarrassed that I just now came across these guy but its better late than never.

Steve Raynolds' take on folk "The Carnival Papers"

_m0d0242

Song/Artist Steve Reynolds with his captivating folk influenced slow rock was featured in the soundtrack of Eli Stone’s “Mortal Kombat” episode with a beautiful mellow the song titled “Coming In Too Low”. Soothing and sincere sounding lyrics that spread across the emotional spectrum of indulgence, wanderlust, love, lost love, joy and a lot of pain, youthful run-ins with the law, full release, redemption and resultant wisdom.

His must buy album released June 3, 2008 The Carnival Papers appears to come across as folk yet it contains a lot of modern rock influences that give it a very unique sound. There are albums that only have a few great song and the rest track are just OK, which is definitely not the case with The Carnival Papers as Steve Reynolds keeps you entertained from beginning to end. From the very folky lyrical driven “Once In Your Life” to the more epic violin accompanied songs “Mistaken Identity” and the heavy orchestrated “Coming In Too Low” Steve Raynold is able to pull every song with elegance.

Awesome The Temper Trap Remixes

temper-trap-remix

The Temper Trap had released the track “Sweet Disposition” and “The Science of Fear” late of last year and a few remixes started to pop up awaiting the release of their album Conditions (to which I have not yet got a chance to review /sadface). Yesterday someone commented on a previous post on The Music Ninja, informing me about the new Remix from Doorly... and I was completely blown away (I got the same warm and fuzzy feeling when I heard his Bonkers Remix). Like many of his remixes, give it some time for it to really kick in. Let me know if there are other awesome The Temper Trap remix out there by commenting below!

Check out more remixes from Doorly on his myspace and follow him on twitter

Mellow Music Madness

relaxed_kitten

Another installment of the madness of the mellows. Songs to pamper your heart rate. This time I am trying to reach out into different genres for mellow songs. We have some amazing chill trance thanks to Velvet Girl, a slow spanish rock by Nacho Vega, the interesting sounds of Rob Dougan, a remix with the one and only radiohead and soothing vocals from Landon Pigg and new music from Andrew Birds latest EP titled “Fitz & the Dizzyspells”

The very song from the Tv Commercial Diamonds are Forever that appeared early last year from Landon Piggs. A slow and heartfelt song with melodies carefully put together for your enjoyment.

“Falling in love at a Coffee Shop” – Landon Pigg

”Falling in love at a Coffee Shop”

Have you ever seen the Matrix? If so, you will probably recognize Rob Dougan’s “Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino variation)”. Rob is a genre-blenind music composer from Sydney, Australia known for mixing elements of orchestral music, tirp hop and bluesy lyrics. His voice is soo damn cool and chilled.. its perfect for this mellow post.

“Nothing At All” – Rob Dougan

”Nothing At All”

Self-described as a rock-singer-songwriter, Nacho Vegas blends the polyhedric language of rock and the most stark lyricism into an intense whole. His lyrics are painful and celebratory, pathetic and grand, brutally lucid and of an intimate beauty; a desperate philosophy of survival shines with a wicked sense of humour and a longing for the divine.

“Dry Martini, S. A” – Nacho Vegas

”Dry Martini, S. A”

The talented songwriter multi-instrumentalist from Chicago, Andrew Bird, just released a new ep Bird’s new Fitz and the Dizzyspells. “See The Enemy” which is a variation on “Anonanimal”

“Andrew Bird” – See The Enemy

”See The Enemy”

And of course we have to have some electronic mellow trance courtesy of Velvet Girl.
“A New Dawn” Velvet Girl

”A New Dawn”

This might not be the chillest song in the world, but I am a sucker for anything radiohead. Due to their huge sucesss, I would say hundreds of remixes are being created everyday and it is just a delight when you come across a good one.
