We hope you’ve all had a productive 2014 so far. If you’re like those of us in the Midwest however, you’ve most likely been stranded inside all weekend. While we deal with temperatures dipping into the negatives, we’ve compiled a little something here to help warm you up (DISCLAIMER: we can’t promise you’ll actually feel physically warmer). It’s the final Sunday of 2013, meaning it’s the perfect time to reflect fondly on the year that was and look forward to the year that will be. This week’s collection has exactly what you need to get in a contemplative mood, from sultry slow jams to upbeat numbers that’ll fit right in on your New Year’s Eve playlists. Hope your chestnuts are roasting over an open fire, because tis the season to be soulful (or something to that effect). Here at The Music Ninja, we’ve really gotten into the spirit of the Holidays. While none of these tracks are explicitly Christmas themed, we believe we have the right mix here to keep your spirits up and your hearts warm. It’s the middle of December, which for many of us means our Holiday break is just an arm’s length away. Of course there’s some hurdles to get through along the way. Whether it’s a hellish finals week packed with little to no sleep, or having to endure office parties while donning your ugliest Holiday sweaters (admittedly, the second option sounds a bit less stressful), we’re here to give you a few moments of reprise as you sort through your hectic schedule.

The 90’s are alive and well in this week’s edition of Sunday Night Soul. From old school remixes of Aaliyah, Sade and Mary J. It’s the first weekend of December, meaning I, like most of you out there, spent my Sunday stuck inside watching the snowflakes gently trickle down to the ground. Being trapped indoors isn’t always a bad thing however. At least you now have an excuse to huddle around the fireplace as you listen to the latest edition of Sunday Night Soul (if you don’t have a fireplace, a space heater will have to do). This edition is packed further to the brim than that mug of piping hot cocoa you’re gripping onto right now, with tasty selections from some of the most talented singers from across the web. It’s hard to pick a favorite from this crop, but I’d like to point your attention to offerings from newcomers Snoh Aalegra, Rosie Lowe, Drew Love, and SPZRKT. Last week we launched our new series, Sunday Night Soul, and frankly, we were nearly surprised by the tremendous reception. That’s put a little pressure on us to repeat that success, and we think we’ve accomplished that here. Volume 2 is just as strong as Volume 1, if not better, with features as diverse as Tev’n‘s minimalistic “Rose Petal” to the comedic stylings of R. Kelly‘s “Italian Hero Sandwich.” Of course we’ve got many other soulful offerings from artists like Marian Hill, Bedlam, DB2, Tink, Tinashe, and many more.
