It’s not often you get to debut your musical act at EDC Las Vegas, but that’s just what Birthdayy Partyy did. Since their launch in January of this year they’ve been on an impressive rise, releasing an insane amount of tracks and getting booked at not only EDC already, but Spring Awakening as well.

After playing their set at the Corona Beach stage, the twin brothers went ahead and released a dance-driven remix of “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani. Safe to say, this one is bananas. As if that wasn’t enough, just two weeks later they dropped a hot flip of Bassnectar’s classic “Bass Head” which is no easy feat to remix. If you ask us, we’re going to have to say they succeeded in remodeling the record to their own likeness. Grab both free downloads today!

[Hip-Hop] Rome Fortune – Small VVorld (Album)

Atlanta has long been home to some of hip-hop’s most unique characters dating back to¬†Outkast‘s emergence, which not only opened the doors for southern rap in the mainstream, but also gave ATL emcees confidence to be as epically strange as they are today. Over the last year we’ve seen artists from¬†Young Thug¬†to¬†Raury¬†rise to prominence and their vastly different styles are a true testament to the diversity of creative minds coming out of the area. In the midst of countless burgeoning Atlanta artists,¬†Rome Fortune¬†has managed to stand out carving out a multi-faceted sound all his own.

After a series of impressive releases, Fortune’s debut project premiered on Billboard yesterday and it’s a must listen for hip-hop fans looking for music that pushes the genre forward.¬†Small VVorld¬†has a distinct abstract feel to it as Rome Fortune delivers his laid-back vocals over a truly impressive range of instrumentals. Aside from far-out production courtesy a few of the South’s many talented beat makers, Fortune teams up with experimental, electronic producers¬†Four Tet¬†and¬†Bassnectar¬†displaying an aptitude for songwriting over dynamic production. Although the emcee features are light, his tracks with oft-collaborator¬†OG Maco¬†display a clear chemistry and the cut “FriendsMaybe” with iLoveMakonnen¬†is one of the most fun, memorable moments of the project.

In some ways, Fortune’s steez on the microphone over ethereal production brings to mind the “cloud rap” popularized by Bay Area acts like Main Attrakionz, while maintaining Atlanta’s trap influences and developing a compelling narrative. The result is one of the most progressive, creative rap projects of the year that we would describe in short as cloud-trap rap. Stream the whole project, and grab the free download, below.

[Dubstep] Bassnectar – Bassnectar’s European Vacation Mix

Lorin AKA Bassnectar is a¬†genius. The intro for this mix sets the tone for what may be the dirtiest mix I’ve heard from him since I saw him perform for the first time back in San Francisco years ago. This is what Bassnectar had to say about this mix on his Soundcloud:

“Here’s a few insane bangers which I decided to compile for my month long European Vacation! We will be hitting 13 festivals and club shows across nine countries and this is a selection of dirty music which I hope you enjoy when you find yourself in a high-speed chase, or tightrope-walking between skyscrapers in a windy metropolis, or sumo-wrestling someone much larger than you…”

This mix features 3 unreleased bangers, a collab with D.U.S.T. and remixes of tracks from Metrik,¬†Bill Posters & Deckscar. He also features these two remixes that were sent over to us yesterday the first one is Modeselektor and Ninjaman’s track “Weed Wid da Macka”.¬†And the second is a remix of his own track “VaVa Voom” feat. Lupe Fiasco. The transitions in this mix are just flawless each song leading into the next one perfectly. He truly has outdone himself with this one, even featuring some of his older tracks like the Acapella from “Cozza Frenzy” and “Ugly” featuring Amp Live. Please just take 20 minutes out of your day and listen to this one all the way through, you can thank me later. Cheers.
