[Electronic] Cashmere Cat – 9 (After Coachella) ft. MØ & SOPHIE (KRANE Remix)

Cashmere Cat
9 (After Coachella) ft. MØ & SOPHIE [KRANE Remix]

“With this one I sat down, didn’t overthink it and just had fun…” -KRANE via Pop Crush

Fun is the first word that comes to mind when listening to this record. Krane has taken the unique production of Cashmere Cat, the vocals of MO and style of SOPHIE and turned “9 (After Coachella)” into something completely original. This rising producer does a fantastic job of incorporating his own sounds of synths and hints of trap, separate of Cashmere’s funky plucks that permeate the original version. The flip creates an excitement and energy that is surely going to be found throughout the rest of the festival season. To top it all off this remix is available for FREE download here.

[Festival Review] Moments & Songs from Treasure Island 2015–SF, 10/17-18

DNP_5253It’s particularly sad to say goodbye to Treasure Island Music Festival. Not only does TI mark the end of the summer festival season, but it’s also a true breathe of fresh air from the oft-overwhelming mega events that have come to dominate the space. With relief from the typical pains of festivals –trouble meeting friends, overcrowded stages, set conflicts and the list goes on–we always walk out of TI refreshed and this year was no exception. Overlooking the San Francisco skyline, Treasure Island’s serenity never fails to amaze us and it didn’t hurt that the weather was pretty much perfect all weekend.

The clear-split lineup that highlighted electronic/hip-hop on Saturday and alternative rock/pop on Sunday gave each day a vibe all its own. Take a trip back with photos and songs from the two different, but equally enjoyable, days.

’Music Ninja Radio #11 – Treasure Island Preview’

Welcome back, October.

Festival season has officially wound down to a close and we Californians are bundling up for another frigid winter – which may eventually dip into the 50s (gasp!).

Music fans near and far look toward cloudy skies and feel a deep nostalgia for carefree summer days spent romping through fairgrounds from Detroit to San Diego to Washington to Chicago and even here in San Francisco. Fortunately, there is one last hurrah every year to hold us over: Treasure Island Music Festival.

[Hip-Hop] Cashmere Cat & DJ Mustard – Ice Rink

Cashmere Cat & DJ Mustard
Ice Rink

Yes, you’re reading that right. Cashmere Cat and DJ Mustard. I had to say it again for it to really sink in. Our favorite feline has been slowly making his reign known in the American hip-hop scene, what with the Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa and Jeremih joint, “Party Girls,” and “Body Language” with Usher, Tinashe and Kid Ink. That’s already an impressive résumé in only two songs. Even though he’s stayed fairly behind the scenes with these prior releases, a change is occurring, and “Ice Rink” is about to be the catalyst.

You can’t argue that DJ Mustard is everywhere. With Cashmere’s unpredictable production and apparent fondness for hip-hop driven remixes, this collaboration makes perfect sense. It works so well too. The bouncy nature of Mustard’s beats squaring off with Cashmere’s ice cold synths, vocal chopping and command of space favor each other for a spectacular result. While it may just be another day for Mustard, it’s exciting to see Cashmere Cat’s consistent rise going so smoothly. This mean nothing but spectacular things for the future of hip-hop, and there’s even been hints of more tunes with these two on the way. Let’s hope so.

[Hip-Hop] BenZel – Four (ft Juicy J & Cashmere Cat)

BenZel Ft. Juicy J & Cashmere Cat
Four

It’s easy to see why Juicy J is still a relevant and prominent artist in the music game. His latest collaboration, “Four,” with hit-makers Cashmere Cat and BenZel finds the Memphis emcee spitting a smooth verse over a dope beat. It is a rarity to hear some new music from Benzel, but it is always welcome and the production duo deliver an addicting track. The unique blend of southern flows over a lounge-esque beat makes for a chill listen that is sure to get heavy rotation on anyone’s playlist. No news on when this single will be available for purchase or if it is tied to another project. So, for now, sit back and enjoy some sonic euphoria.

[Electronic] Ariana Grande ft. Cashmere Cat – Be My Baby (EASY GIRL REMIX)

Ariana Grande ft. Cashmere Cat
Be My Baby (EASY GIRL REMIX) Waxhole Exclusive

This song is about to be all over the blogosphere (and rightfully so), but I feel like I needed to be the Ninja to post this, as I’ve been following Easy Girl for years. The Angeleno producer has been in the remix game for quite some time, taking on industry favorites like Grimes, R Kelly, and TMN favorite Ellie Goulding. He has showcased his own brand of futuristic remixes in the past with a signature style of revamped percussion lines and vocal chops, but it seems to us like he’s onto something new. By taking on not only Ariana Grandbae, but her Cashmere Cat-produced single off her new album, Easy Girl is clearly trying to make a serious name for himself by taking on some great new challenges. Like most of his remixes, there’s certainly no shortage of reproduced synth lines to be found here, but it is a certified Easy Girl classic and something we’ll remember him by as he continues his meteoric rise to stardom.
