[Electronic] Drake – Passionfruit (A&G Remix) [Andrew Tejada Cover]

Drake
Passionfruit (A&G Remix) [Andrew Tejada Cover]

With the recent Spotify boom and the decline of Soundcloud, the cover/remix package is becoming quite the go-to. One artist who has recently hopped on that with some success is A&G, who remixed Drake’s “Passionfruit” with the help of vocalist Andrew Tejada.

The tropically driven remix by A&G has a throwback sound to when the sub-genre was first circulating. It makes for a nice nostalgic Summer song. It’s got a chill vibe to it, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t make for a good record to get a party going. Dance-able and vivid, this new “Passionfruit” will be eaten up by party goers all season long. A&G released this one as a free download, so there’s no real reason to sleep on it.

Just Hold On We're Going Home (LUCA LUSH Remix ft. Kim Vallido)

There’s no telling what LUCA LUSH is going to do next. A good Drake remix is always welcome, and he has supplied exactly that. The main single from Nothing Was The Same only gets flipped by LUCA LUSH, but covered by the breezy vocal prowess of Kim Vallido, who holds down her duties with ease.

Shedding the almost slow house feel of the original, this rendition opts for more of a spacey, hip-hop approach. The synths twinkle and growl while the drums bring some bite through the low end, resulting in a textbook LUCA LUSH flip. We’re no stranger to his remixing capabilities, and the use of a vocalist provided yet another tool that he has proven he can master. Grab the download via ToneDen below:

Best I Ever Had (Mason Flynt Remix)

Finding words to describe this has been tough. Here’s about the best way to explain it: Shoegaze Drake. Did you ever think you’d hear that phrase in your life? Well, Mason Flynt dropped a remix of Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” yesterday that sounds like something out straight out of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. It really catches the ear and makes for an unexpected great listen. He found a great balance between electronic elements and live instrumentation for what ended up being one of the most unique takes on Drake out there. This was a huge switch up in style for the primarily hip-hop influenced producer and remixer, but it really does work and is simply fun. Mason has had some spectacular tunes so far, and the Austin native is slowly beginning to make a name for himself with his solid collection of slick songs. Luckily enough, this remix a free download, so you DJs out there can inject a major dose of feels in your set and get emotional in the club real quick.

[Future] GoldLink – Ay Ay (Gravez VIP) (feat. Drewsthatdude & Scolla)

Ay Ay (Gravez VIP) (ft. Drewsthatdude & Scolla)

Atlanta-based producer Gravez has positioned himself nicely for 2015 closing out last year with an onslaught of strong releases, both originals and remixes. His take on Drake‘s “6 God” was featured by multiple editors in our recent best of 2014 list, but it’s only one of many future hip-hop productions that has gained him a rapidly growing following on SoundCloud. For his last remix of 2014, Gravez unleashed a complete re-imagination of “Ay Ay,” the standout track from Ninja-favorite emcee GoldLink. With some production assistance from Drewsthatdude and vocal work by Scolla, the VIP keeps Link’s vocals in tact while transforming the booty-bouncing original into a soulful number with a distinct southern, future bounce.

With artists like Rome Fortune, Young Thug and iLoveMakonnen pushing the envelope as emcees in Atlanta, Gravez seems to be carving his own lane among the wave of producers creating unconventional backdrops helping ATLiens stay ahead of the curve sonically. We’re looking forward to what Gravez has in store for us this year between his original work, remixes and collaborations. In the meantime, enjoy this unique cut above, grab a free download and head to Gravez’s Soundcloud page for more gems.

Trophies

The year might almost be over, but Drake still has some new music to deliver to his eager fans. His latest leak, “Trophies,” is a triumphant Hit-Boy, Noah “40” Shebib, and Hagler assisted, horn-heavy celebrity anthem that was previously debuted in a trailer for Nothing Was The Same. The Young Money-affiliate takes an introspective look at his rise to fame, responsibilities in life, and the effect his parent’s divorce had on his young mind. Drake has always been one to let listeners into his personal thoughts, and this track is another look into his past and how it has shaped his future and the artist he is today.

Timbaland
Know About Me (Feat. Jay-Z, Drake & James Fauntleroy)

After alluding to this track awhile back, mega-producer Timbaland drops a brand new single featuring Drake and Jay-Z. The single, titled “Know Bout Me,” is a monster collaboration and very reminiscent of classic Timbo from the 90’s with heavy hitting bass and rim rattling studio effects. It seems the beef is squashed between the rapper and producer and now we get the aftermath of the make-up. At first listen, it definitely takes some getting used to as Timbo abandons the synth beats and electro rhythms for a more throwback flow. That might be something that new fans are not used to but still is just as good as his previous hits. With the addition of Drizzy and Hov delivering some dope verses and James Faunterloy crooning on the hook, this is a nice taste of what is to come from the Virginia native.

If you are feeling nostalgic, take a listen to the first single off his upcoming full length Textbook Timbo, and be sure to grab a copy when it hits iTunes December 3rd.

With just Sampha‘s chorus and a few brief portions of Drizzy’s verse, this rework takes on its own feel that is miles from the somber and introspective original. Rather, the brothers throw in some upbeat drums and an incredibly addicting disco bassline making it hard not to bob your head.
