[Electronic] Mickey Valen & King Deco – Move That Body

Mickey Valen & King Deco
Move That Body

“Move That Body” isn’t a Christmas song, but then again you’ve been bombarded by holiday music since before Thanksgiving. We’re switching things up for you with a smooth original from Mickey Valen and King Deco that dropped on Lowly Palace.

The soulful R&B infused electronic gem is just what you need to take a break from the usual sounds of this time of year. “Move That Body” will take hold of you with its infectious grooves and whisk you away for just over three minutes; that is unless you engage the repeat function which we wouldn’t blame you for. We’ve done it, now it’s your turn!

[Electronic] Madalen Duke – Gucci Store (Mickey Valen Remix)

Gucci Store (Mickey Valen Remix)

“Gucci Store” by Madalen Duke is a one-of-a-kind track. It would make sense that an equally as unique remix of it would come along. We have Mickey Valen to thank for that and whoever chose to commission him for an official flip.

Mickey Valen keeps a similar tone to his remix, but in turning up the hip-hop edge, we gave a hardened take on the song. It still has the poppy elements that the original does, paying homage to them in his own way, but in taking things a bit of a different direction he made it his own. This is essentially how to put together a perfect remix. We instantly recognize the song, but are positively taken back by its new form. Throw this one on repeat and thank us later.

Pistols At Dawn (Lucian x Mickey Valen Remix)

Being a newcomer to all of the artists involved in this tune, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Needless to say, after giving it a whirl, I was floored. Preserving the clear and crisp vocals of Seinabo Sey, Lucian and Mickey Valen shape a pop infused, futuristic masterpiece that could be just as much of a radio single as it is a SoundCloud gem. The piano offsets the huge, sawed off drops nicely and give the whole track a nice balance between every ebb and flow. Pop sensibilities face off with the new, transformative and exciting styles that have dominated the SoundCloud community and the winner every time is the listener. If you’re looking for a good segway track from more mainstream material, this remix courtesy of Lucian and Mickey Valen is a great place to start this fresh transition.

Earlier today, we premiered Noosa’s first track off of her new album, Wonderland. If you missed the boat, you can check it out and read up on how we’re premiering the entire album, song by song.

After you’re done with that, feel free to dig into a much deeper, brooding lyrics from this now LA-based vocalist. While the last tune brimmed with whimsy, “Clocktower” is obviously tied to a serious life event. Her luscious vocals definitively add tremendous depth to this tune, providing something that’s inherently intense and personal.

Producer Mickey Valen adds to the haunting pensive lyrics with a rich background of light, trembling synths and a powerful section of strings.

After two songs we’ve now seen two completely different sides to Wonderland. Check back in tomorrow to see what’s on tap.

Noosa – Begin Again [TMN PREMIERE]

We’ve been writing about Noosa for quite some time. In fact, our adoration for this indie act dates all the way back to the debut EP, which dropped in February of 2012. Fast forward a couple of years and we’ve grown even fonder of this collaboration between Noosa and her producer, Mickey Valen.

Aside from a few releases here and there, Noosa has been relatively quiet for a while, and now we know why. Today marks the first release from their upcoming LP, Wonderland. Featuring nine songs, this album is self-released under her own label. The goal behind this is to inspire other people to take charge of their own creative potential.

Everything you hear was recorded in an apartment. Vocals were literally done in a closet. It’s just taking what you have access to and finding ways to maximize your potential”

We’re fortunate enough to be bringing you every single song from this new album over the next week. Each day, we will be premiering multiple tracks, and frankly, we couldn’t be happier about doing it. First up is one of our favorites from the album, ‘Begin Again,’ which offers up a slightly more electronica-based exploration of Noosa’s sound, in comparison to the rest of the album. Of course there’s a glowing piano melody, as we’ve come to expect, but we’re also offered up a light section of strings. Coupled in with layered levels of synths and chopped up vocal samples, we’re helplessly enchanted by Sky’s lyrics. Her sensuous and nurturing voice helps illustrate a wondrous message that has us completely lost in our day dreams.

This is just the first song of many that you’ll hear first on The Music Ninja. Make sure to check in every day to hear what’s next!

[Dream-Pop] AYER – YOUNG

AYER
YOUNG

We’ve been all ears on deck since debuting AYER, the independent musical melding of vocalist Danny Schmittler and producer Mickey Valen of NOOSA acclaim back in October. “YOUNG” the second single released from AYER‘s forthcoming debut EP,  takes its form behind a synth progression plucked right out of a John Hughes movie, and a low end that had this writer melting all over. There is a heavy sense of emotion contained within AYER’s music, evoking shades of being in love, slight melancholia, inspirative instrumentation and it just downright oozes sexiness. As we approach the weekend, we wear a large grin knowing that as a free download “YOUNG” will be many a weapon of seduction in the coming days. Make it yours.
