[Pop/Electronica] Lily Allen – Air Balloon (Digital Farm Animals Remix)

LilyAllen
Air Balloon (Digital Farm Animals Remix)

It’s been a few months since we had a chance to check in and hear some new music from one of our favorite breakout artists of 2013, Digital Farm Animals, and behind a worthy individual debut EP Bugged Out, the London based electronic-pop artisan has admirably authored us up a first entry into the world of remixes by taking on bubbly pop vocalist Lily Allen and her newest single “Air Balloon”. If you’ve had a chance to weave your psyche into Digital Farm Animals’ production index, then the opening, dream-wavey synth line will serve as a comforting landmark amongst a sea of poppy percussion, while those vocals serve as the perfect vessel to progress the tune’s very catchy evolution. Just purely intoxicating stuff really. Digital Farm Animals’ remix of “Air Balloon” will come as part of Lily Allen’s congruently titled EP, which you can pre-order here and also features two remixes from Taiki & Nulight along with the original recording. Add a little funk-lean to your step this Monday and stream DFA’s revision above.

Digital Farm Animals – Buggin’ ft. Tyson [TMN Premiere]

Digital Farm Animals
Buggin' Feat Tyson

With only the third single to his name which rounds out a brief extended play entitled Bugged Out, London’s Digital Farm Animals has already put together quite the impressive group of tracks. Fusing the stylings of synth-pop, nu-wave, house and a solid sprinkling of pop influenced instrumentation, DFA quickly slid onto our radar, and has remained near the top of our ‘artists to watch’ in 2013. The latest effort “Buggin'”, featuring the vocal stylings of Tyson, finds the young producer tackling a much more club-centered dancefloor vibe, pumped up by very retro and 80’s leaning synthesizers  and a glittery kick-drum. Now that we’ve had the chance to feature all three tracks from Bugged Out over the last few months, including “Adore You” and “Bad Idea” as well as a revealing personal interview, it’s your turn to take our advice to go ahead and download the entire EP for the hefty price of one “Facebook Like” (which you can complete here) and start getting your Digital Farm Animals on.

[Synth-Pop] Digital Farm Animals – Bad Idea ft. Holly & MNEK

Digital Farm Animals 'Bad Idea' ft. Holly Partridge & MNEK

London’s Digital Farm Animals has been quite the apple of this publication’s eye, or ear for that matter,  since we had the pleasure of debuting their first single “Adore You” back in July followed by an intimate exclusive interview early last month. It’s safe to say that DFA’s artistic prowess and quality of electronic production has swallowed our psyche, simultaneously placing them on our proverbial list on “One’s to Watch For” in 2014. With their forthcoming EP, which was recorded mainly under the influence of some Down Under inspiration in Australia, Bugged Out, having just been released on August 26, DFA has released their second synth-wave driven, pop laced track “Bad Idea” featuring contributions from Holly & a recent collaborator on Duke Dumont’s smash single “Hold On”, MNEK. DFA’s sophomore public contribution follows a melancholy pop song blueprint conjoined with a moving vocal track which sees both vocalists’ skills intertwining in a product sounding in the same vein as South London’s soul songstress Jessie Ware, before unleashing on a simple, but rhythmically boisterous chorus. We’re certainly excited for more material from Digital Farm Animals as their first two entries into TMN’s life have been primly polished pieces of left-field pop music just brimming with potential, and catchy enough for any style of music consumer. Stream the tune above and have a Happy Monday.

[Synth-Wave] Digital Farm Animals – Adore You feat. Ofei

Digital Farm Animals
Adore You Feat. Ofei

It really is such a pleasure witnessing so many styles of electronic music begin to receive their due credit, other than the typical Top-40 electro and dubstep that has been responsible for the coining of umbrella term “EDM” to the droves of mainstream buyers in the last three years. London’s Digital Farm Animals is the latest producer in a long line of somewhat overlooked burgeoning talents to come across our office speakers here at TMN, and with electronic intonations that owe a little love to artists like Four Tet & Nicolas Jaar to TEED and SBTRKT it was pretty easy to feature him along with  single “Adore You” featuring pop singer/songwriter Ofei. “Adore You” fuses Ofei’s superlative vocal reverberations with  a melody sounding as if it came straight off of M83’s timeless Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, with a touch of some sensible but left-field pop. The tune comes as DFA’s first sampling of music from a forthcoming EP, Bugged Out, which drops on August 26. Check it out above, and drift into that dreamy slice of Thursday night a little early.

[Synth-Wave/Pop] Psychic Twin – Unlock Yr Heart

Psychic Twin
Unlock Yr Heart

If you happen to maintain as one of the fortunate people “in the know” about the extremely listenable psych-pop/synth-wave duo Psychic Twin, then we commend your taste and cutting edge eye for up and coming talent. On top of that, if you have been following the New York via Chicago band, specifically front-woman Erin Fein on Facebook, then a few weeks ago you may have received the message asking if we the fans would be interested in a new track. Well, after previous singles “Strangers”, “Dream State” and “Are You Gonna Get Her”, self-released mostly through Bandcamp and via exclusive 7″ vinyl pressings, we were salivating like one of Pavlov’s pitbulls for any sort of new material from the uber-talented pair and our answer was an emphatic “Yes!!!!!”.  Finally after a slight wait, “Unlock Yr Heart”, Psychic Twin’s newest single was unearthed through an obscure (to us Americans) German source, and lucky for you, it has landed right here in our Ninja laps. The track begins with pretty synth waves and a bass line a la Visions era Claire Boucher, while being bolstered by Fein’s airy, but penetrating vocals. The track rounds out with a pop sensibility that appeals to so many walks of life, signaling an end to Psychic Twin’s air of underground-ness most likeyl. Enough gushing already, just listen to “Unlock Yr Heart” above, and dig into Psychic Twin’s back catalogue if you have the chance, as they will no doubt begin to surface on many a music publication’s radar in the coming year.
