Áine Aura – Uncover [TMN PREMIERE]

Áine Aura
Uncover

There are few things that we love more than debuting an artist. Something about being the first to share a person’s gift with the world is overwhelmingly enticing. While it doesn’t happen very often, we’re always chomping at the bit to get that opportunity. Luckily for us, that opportunity came to us by way of Rip City.

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Áine Aura (pronounced: awn + ye aura) is ready to flaunt her vocal prowess in front of the masses, bringing us her debut single, “Uncover.” This electro-pop gem is truly radiant, providing a ethereal glow through it’s Chet Faker-style build (notice the humming harmonies similar to “Drop the Game”). Production wise, EXROYALE knocked it out of the park, crafting a surging melody that walks effortlessly along a booming bassline. The clean and simplistic percussion work, comprised of claps and light hi-hat hits, fit perfectly, creating the proper space for the listener to focus on Aura’s stunning vocals.

Speaking of those vocals – good lord. How long will it take these to get on the radio? Days? Hours? Minutes? We wouldn’t be surprised to hear it booming over speakers in a public place later today. Gushing of a music nerd aside, she truly does have a unique tone and a range that flirts effortlessly between haunting deep lows and heavenly highs, leaving us grinning ear-to-ear.

This gem of a tune will be available on iTunes next week. Mark your calendar.

[Synth-Pop] Fantastic Fantastic – The Night [TMN Premiere]

Fantastic Fantastic
The Night

Fantastic Fantastic may be a relatively unknown entity at the moment; but their lush, crepuscular take on synth driven pop melodies carries a maturity far beyond what their now modest catalog of releases would suggest. Comprised of Kris & Micke, the London based duo’s latest single “The Night” bends a poppy, upbeat vocal inflection around a sea of modulated synthesizer -no doubt pulled from their envious Antonelli MIDI– that Kavinsky may even  be a little green over; fostering a welcome contrast between Fantastic Fantastic’s vocal and instrumentation. While “The Night” may only be the pair’s third single under the Fantastic Fantastic moniker, it’s clear their chemistry shines through a developed production sense already more so than some of the “synth-pop persuasion’s” most notable acts, and we were chomping at the bit to premiere this one today; which also just so happens to coincide quite serendipitously with the arctic chill that has swept through this writer’s hometown of Denver. We’ll surely keep our wonderful TMN readership updated as the Globally tinged duo glides seamlessly over decades and borders as their bio would suggest, but for now, stream Fantastic Fantastic’s “The Night” above before anyone else has the chance.

[Denver Giveaway] SOHN – 11/10 – Larimer Lounge

SOHN
The Chase

Vienna-based Londoner SOHN‘s name has been one synonymous with TMN’s softer and emotive side since his premiere single “The Wheel” back in 2012, and since then what was once a snowball’s worth of hype has accumulated into a full fledged avalanche which has seen his moniker attached to projects like Banks & Angel Haze, releases on classic indie labels like 4AD, and countless other distinctions. So when SOHN’s ambient palate of electronicism touches down tomorrow, Monday the 10th at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, we wanted at least a few of our Ninja friends there representing. We’re giving away two pairs of tickets to the show, and as always, entering is beyond simple. To set the mood and stack the odds in your favor, listen to “The Chase” from SOHN above.

There are a few rules, of course:
– You must be 18+ to enter.
– You are responsible for transportation.
– You must bring a valid form of ID to pick up your tickets at will call.
-You ABSOLUTELY MUST be ready to get lost in a constant state of swoon, completely lost in the dreamy nature of SOHN’s music

[Dream Pop] Satchmode – Hall and Oates

Satchmode
Hall & Oates

When this song first popped up in my inbox, I couldn’t help but stop what I was doing so I could give my undivided attention to this heart warming, Indie-Pop gem from Satchmode. With a title like “Hall and Oates”, it’s almost inevitable that this Los Angeles band will make your dreams come true (see what I did there?).

“Hall and Oates” is filled with dreamy synths, delicate harmonies, and easily the most intoxicating lyrics since the year of Adele and “Someone Like You”. No, really. This song is ideally one of the most catchy, dancey, and depressing tunes I’ve come across in quite some time. From the very moment you press play, you’ll instantly reminisce about that one relationship where you loved so passionately and so deeply but eventually fell out of love and could never get it back. We’ve all been there and it sucks. Satchmode gives us those heart-wrenching memories through their enticing melodies and emotional words to which we can’t help but flood our mind with these toxic memories. If this doesn’t hit you straight in the feels, then you probably haven’t been heartbroken to this extent before. “Hall and Oates” is available for free download, so grab this one before you blindly call your ex to tell them how much you miss them.

[Indie] Close Talker – For the Sun

Close Talker
For The Sun

The precision and complex sound structure, that’s almost angular in it’s execution, has become as much a British affair as a cold summers day. There’s something distinctly London-esque about new track For The Sun, from Canadian four piece Close Talker.

This refined nu-indie effort abstains from explosive outbursts and rather than building to fruition, it’s quality is refined and showcased throughout the 3.28 minutes of majestic composure. Drawing comparisons to early Bombay Bicycle Club, their measured and compact form has also conjured fitting nods to LA’s own Local Natives.

Close Talker’s second full length album Flux, is released November 4th on Nevado Records.
