[Indie-Pop] Two Door Cinema Club – Sleep Alone (Official Video)

The Irish trio, Two Door Cinema Club, stormed the alternative music scene in 2010 with their debut album Tourist History, instantly becoming everyone’s favorite indie dance-pop band. Since then, the question that has been on every fan’s mind is, “What will they do next?”

It’s been a long time coming, but finally TDCC has released new music in the form of “Sleep Alone,” the first single from their upcoming album Beacon. “Sleep Alone” is much like their previous work: intricate electric guitar picking over a dance beat, mixed with insanely catchy choruses. But there is also a new synthy sound in the background.  Even more recently released is the accompanying music video, featuring some flying beds and massive guitars.

It seems that the new album has the potential to be very good. As good as Tourist History? We’ll see. Beacon is set to drop in the UK on September 3 via Kitsuné and in the US on September 4 via Glassnote Records.

[Indie Folk] Sea Wolf – Old Friend

The Los Angeles artist Alex Brown Church, who plays under the band name Sea Wolf, has been releasing indie folk pop gems since he released his debut album ‘Leaves in the River’ in 2007.  Last year, he put out ‘White Water, White Bloom’ and without missing a beat, is set to release a new record, ‘Old World Romance,’ in September.  ‘Old Friend’ is the first single to be released from his new album, and it does not disappoint.  Gentle acoustic fingerpicking is overlaid with ringing electric guitar and Church’s signature catchy and entertaining vocals.  It looks like ‘Old World Romance’ is set to be another great album from Sea Wolf.

Look for ‘Old World Romance’ to be released on September 11, 2012 on Dangerbird Records.

[Folk] The Lumineers – Submarines + Ho Hey

Ever since the release of their self-titled, debut album, The Lumineers have steadily become more and more popular. Why? They understand how to make simple folk songs that are really good and extremely catchy. The songs ‘Ho Hey’ and ‘Submarines’ showcase the band’s tune crafting ability wonderfully. ‘Ho Hey’ starts off with soft, acoustic guitar strumming punctuated with cries of, ‘Ho!’ and, ‘Hey!’ The song builds quickly and by the end you’ll be stomping your feet and singing along. ‘Submarines’ is a piano driven track, with interesting lyrics referencing World War II fears of Japanese submarines. Without a doubt, both songs are definitely worth a listen.

If you enjoy these songs, consider picking up the whole album, ‘The Lumineers,’ released on April 3, 2012 by the Dualtone Music Group. It’s a good one.
