Raffertie
Build Me Up

Now I’m not really hoping for new Mariah Carey material anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate new tunes that reference her work, especially those ’90s classics. Here’s one such track by London producer Raffertie. Borrowing from Carey’s 1993 hit “Dreamlover”, “Build Me Up” is what happens when you drag a hit pop song through some fuzzy, unforgiving, bass-heavy spheres. It’s part static, part futuristic club throbber, bumpin’ hard and slow through riffs of thick noise and zapping laser effects. It sure as hell isn’t a Billboard chart-topper, but is familiar enough to carve out some space in your playlist.

“Build Me Up” is the lead single from Raffertie’s new EP, out May 20th via Ninja Tune.
