Olivia Tremor Control’s keyboardist, Peter Erchick, has been around for a while, having put out his first solo record (Individualized Shirts) under the name Pipes You See, Pipes You Don’t all the way back in 2001. Since then he’s been fairly elusive, with only a 2003 release keeping his name about. Now he’s back with a new album, the oddly-titled ‘Lost In The Pancakes’, and what a startling comeback it is. Highlight track ‘The Train In The Station’, with its cheery piano and vocals, is reminiscent of The Beatles at their poppiest. Other stand-out songs include the delightfully melancholic ‘Lost In The Pancakes’ and the endearing ‘The Next Anything’. In short, Pipes You See, Pipes You Don’t have made one of the indie-pop records of 2011, and it would take a heart of ice not to fall in love with these delicately beautiful songs.
