Canadian indie-rock trio The Rural Alberta Advantage are the latest group to be featured on HP and SPIN’s ‘Road to SXSW’ series, and what a band they are. We’ve known about them for a while now – ever since they put out the excellent debut ‘Departing’, featuring the excellent ‘North Star’ earlier this month, and from their demos. This video sees the trio discuss why they formed all the way back in 2005, and what cracking the Billboard Top 200 feels like. Their songs are characterised by earnest lyrics and vocals, with knock-out pop hooks that mainstream acts would kill for, like album highlights ‘Stamp’ and ‘Muscle Relaxants’. The Rural Alberta Advantage have the talent, inspiration and certainly the dedication that makes them a must-see for anyone going to SXSW this year. ‘Departing’ is available via Paper Bag Records (Canada) and Saddle Creek Records in the US.
