After sharing album tracks ‘Tuck the Darkness In’ and ‘In the Yard’, Bowerbirds are giving us another preview of what ‘The Clearing’ is all about with this excellent, six-minute mini documentary. Watch Philip and Beth discuss the making of their forthcoming third album and chat about building a house, then grab the first two tracks from the album below.
Having previously shared album opener ‘Tuck the Darkness In’ back in December, Bowerbirds are now giving us a further peek into what lies ahead on ‘The Clearing’, their forthcoming third album. New track, ‘In The Yard’ is an adventurous yet accessible slice of confessional folk music that once again ups the anticipation for their new LP.
In the lead up to their highly anticipated debut album, ‘The Slideshow Effect’, Toronto dream-pop duo Memoryhouse have shared a second track from the release. ‘Walk With Me’ slowly builds from a smooth, dreamy intro into a magnificent indie pop crescendo and further reinforces Memoryhouse’s earlier promises that this will be their year.
‘The Slideshow Effect’ is out 28th February via Sub Pop.
Jack’s back! Since releasing his second album ‘Everything Is New’ in 2009 we haven’t heard much from Jack Peñate, so this gorgeous new track comes as a bit of a surprise. Casting aside the perky indie-pop of his previous album, ‘No One Lied’ is a beautifully understated slow-song that perfectly highlights Jack’s soulful vocals. There’s no real release information with the video but we’re confident we’ll hear some new Jack tracks soon. According to his Twitter, ‘No One Lied’ is ‘just the start’.
Following on from the excellent ‘Waves’ EP, Northern Irish indie sensations General Fiasco are back with a new single and promise of their long-awaited second album. Showcasing General Fiasco at their bright, bold and vibrant best, new single ‘Don’t You Ever’ is the sort of contagious indie-pop that will cement itself in your head from the first play.
Minimal mastermind Nicolas Jaar dropped this sultry new track a few weeks ago but we’re just catching up with it now, thanks to Gorilla Vs Bear. Apparently we were all tucking into the mulled wine when we should have been keeping an eye on NPR’s favorite new artists of 2011 post.
‘With Just One Glance’ features the smoldering vocals of Scout LaRue, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter, and is everything you’d hope for from Nicolas Jaar; a mesmerizing, down-tempo jam that’s spacious, melodic and utterly intoxicating.
To help combat the back to work blues, Toronto based dream-pop duo Memoryhouse have dropped this gorgeous cover of The Zombie’s 1968 classic ‘This Will Be Our Year’ as a free download via their blog, accompanied with the following message:
In light of the new year, Evan and I have decided to record a cover of one of our favorite Zombies songs, “This Will Be Our Year”. Thank you everyone for all of your support in 2011, and I hope this song helps motivate you to lose 5 pounds, stop smoking, and watch less reality T.V. (or is that just me?). Lots of exciting things are in the works this year, onward and upward!
