K'naan + Coca Cola + Fifa + Wavin Flag + Remix = Powerful Anthem

Knaan World Cup Official Anthem Singer2 K'naan + Coca Cola + Fifa + Wavin Flag + Remix = Powerful Anthem

Back in 2009 I stated that K’naan is probably one of the most underrated/under-appreciated hip/hop artists of the year and if you read here you can see I just go on and on about how he doesn’t get the attention he deserved for his sophomore album Troubadour. Well I have a feeling that 2010 is gonna be his best year yet. Coca-Cola has picked his song Wavin’ Flag to serve as the anthem for Coca-Cola South Africa World Cup Campaign! Thanks Coke.. not only do you taste great.. but you have great taste!!

For us the fans this means two things: 1) More people will be able to listen to his messages of peace and hope through his positive music and 2) By the end of the year Wavin’ Flag will probably be so overplayed that you wont want to hear it ever again. And is this a bad thing? NOT AT ALL! I am willing to sacrifice listening to Wavin Flag for the good of the world cup and humanity. Simple put more people need to listen to K’naan. From the first time I got goosebumps listening to his chorus driven anthem and still as I am writing this post, listening to his music has the natural tendency to inspire.. and what better place to inspire than the World Cup; Where players from all over the world peacefully coming together to partake in the greatest sport ever created in the history of mankind!!! (yes I am a die hard soccer fan!)

The track below is a remix of K’NAAN’s “Wavin’ Flag,” reworked for the Coca-Cola campaign, which invites football fans to express their optimism and passion for football through active dance celebrations in the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa.

    This is probably the best song Fifa ever chose…if I’m not mistaken… last year was Shakira and Wyclef (which are great artists, but poorly chosen by Fifa). ‘Wavin Flag’ finally represents the true meaning of the Fifa games and being able to represent your country while your fellow citizens cheer or cry with you at every moment.     But it has been out for a while hasn’t it? K’naan even had a African Tour with it (I just missed it:()

    I don’t know what’s wrong with his site:S I can’t see a lot of it, does anyone know if he has any more shows coming up? I live in the Netherlands but could easily go to London if he had a show there (and it would be worth it!) And if he has any more shows in Africa, I’ll be in Nairobi this summer… Do you know any way to fin out?

    i couldn’t agree with you more about k’naan. his message is powerful and his words are inspiring. i remember lupe complaining about not being named one of the top hip hop artists last year because he thought kids need better role models than 50 cent, chamillionaire, etc. I don’t disagree with him, but k’naan wins the battle over lupe for me everyday of the week. his show with wale in NYC march 31 is gonna be amazing

    it’s a beautiful song… it’s just a shame that it took a corporation who is responsible for the deaths of many many people (coca-cola: http://killercoke.org/) to bring K’naan’s music to the masses :’( it seems very ironic that someone who sings of hope and freedom is now the song of a company that crushes people’s hope and oppresses the people of Colombia.

    I don’t think that if you sell out to corporate sponsorship you can be a true revolutionary although I do understand why he did it. He probably thinks he will be able to change more things for the better if he is in a more influential position and obviously it’s difficult to turn down millions of dollars.
