[Remix] Big Boi – Shutterbugg (Mochipet Remix)

To produce a stellar remix, a DJ must either take away or add new layers in all the right places transforming the track into something that stands on its own in comparison to the original. Many fail and end up making songs that feel contrived or otherwise boring resulting in a sea of horrible remixes of the same song…in particularly, Big Boi’s “Shutterbug.” Big Boi already has a sick flow unmatched by many in hip hop, and a lot of DJ’s created an expected ravey/trancy/housey/banger remix that doesn’t necessarily work. Mochipet works with the existing beat, keeping the integrity of the original track and elevating it from 10 to 20. Its aggressiveness, give and take, build up and drop don’t take away from the track but add to it. Another example that no matter how popular and overplayed a song may get, someone out there will still find a way to make it sound fresh again. Thanks Mochipet!

[New] Big Boi – Shutterbug (Jack Beats remix)

After all the sloppy rips and crappy uploaded youtube videos of this song, I present you the real thangg. Jack Beats comes out with a simplistic heavy bass remix of Big Boi’s Shutterbug from his recently released album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty. At times DJ/Producers are so eager to create the next banger remix that often forget the original melodies in its entirety over-saturating it with layers of effects and bass. This is completely not the case as Jack Beats have delicately extracted what makes Shutterbug so great and added an entire new electronic suit giving the song all the authority to start creeping the dance floor.

[Album Review] Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty

Though it doesn’t feel like it, Sir Luscious Left Foot (Purple Ribbon/Def Jam) is Big Boi’s debut solo album. During his time in the spotlight, Big Boi has been assumed to be the straight urban side of Outkast (the Grammy winning hip-pop juggernaut) complementing the pop-inclined Andre 3000.

Recorded over three years from 2007 to 2010 with a collection of some of the greatest producers in the business (Scott Storch, Organized Noize, Salaam Remi), the record has a cohesive feeling to it despite the large cast. This suggests that Big Boi was heavily involved in every step of the process. The resulting album sounds very much like the Big Boi from Outkast, with great hooks and quirkiness that had previously been assumed to be the work of Andre 3000. Sir Luscious Left Foot side-steps the tendency for solo albums to be extravagant and self-indulgent and instead produces a solid setlist of 14 potential singles. It’s worth noting that the recording quality of the album is excellent and that it avoids cliches of modern hip hop. Sir Luscious Left Foot is an album as original and varied as Big Boi himself. It differentiates itself from Outkast’s back-catalogue but without losing anything we loved about Big Boi to begin with.

Personal favourites are Tangerine and Daddy Fat Sax, but every listener will have a different favourite. There are no bad tracks.

[Hip/Hop/Video] Big Boi – "Shutterbug"

THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME! As P&P describe it its stylish, colorful, dynamic and full of vivid imagery. The video is the complete opposite to what every other hip/hop artist has been pushing out for the last couple of months. I have always enjoyed listening to Hip/Hop but when it comes to making videos, only a few actually try to be different and Big Boi definitely stands out.
