[Chill] Four Tet – Locked

Electronic experimental artist Four Tet is back with ‘Locked’, a cut from the end of his Fabriclive59 mix. Describing ‘Locked’ as ‘complex’ would be the understatement of the century, such is the immense sonic detail in the track. Filled with tiny bleeps and twisting rhythms, ‘Locked’ shows Kieran Hebden’s skill of creating an intricate yet utterly compelling piece of music that pulls the listener in deep. Available as a vinyl single in September via Hebden’s Text Records, ‘Locked’ shows that Four Tet are even more relevant in the electro scene of 2011 than ever before.

Kieran Hebden, the London-based musician who goes by moniker Four Tet, has become a musical nomad constantly moving around between different genres producing tracks that are heavily influenced by hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk music. Upcoming producer/DJ Jon Hopkins recently released an uplifting ambient remix of Four Tet‘s Angel Echoes that is delicately amazing. Can’t say it is better than Caribou’s version of the same song but it definitely gives it a run for its money. Give them a listen and tell us which version do you guys like the most?

And here is Caribou’s more hectic version of Angle Echos.

[Albums Review] Four Tet – There Is Love In You

four-tet-050606
Kieren Hebden’s latest album under the Four Tet moniker is, by a considerably margin, his strongest and most consistently rewarding release to date. Here, the beats are much less rooted in instrumental hip hop, and are more geared towards the dance floor. Instead of using complex or bloated chord changes, Hebden opts for methods practiced by composers like Manuel Göttshing, Wolfgang Voigt or Steve Reich with unchanging harmonic centers, using texture and volume to reveal the limitless potential of the sonic spectrum. Standout track “Plastic People” starts with a Gas-like steady bass drum pulse and adds understated, jazzy comps—hand claps, rim knocks, and up-beat pulsing shakers. These elements are methodically added to, and subtracted from the beat, maintaining a forward motion in a way that’s hardly noticeable but endlessly preservative of the track’s substructure.
