Sufjan Stevens fans will be chomping at the bit do get their hands on this interpretation of “A Little Lost.” In a tribute compilation put together by The Red Hot Organization, notable artists from around the globe came together to pay tribute to American cellist, composer, singer, and musician Arthur Russell.

Master mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell comes out October 21 by way of Yep Roc, and includes works by Robyn, Hot Chip, Blood Orange, Phosphrescent, Jose Gonzalez, Devandra Banhart, and more. Today though, we’re covering just this body of work from Detroit-born Sufjan Stevens. Boasting a defined electronic bass and percussion section, the focus is on Steven’s voice, much as it was Russell’s. The beauty of both this interpretation and it’s predeceasing original are in the simplicity. With the understated nature, we’re left to get lost in the lyrics.

Obviously moved by the message, Steven’s had this to say:

I like “A Little Lost” because it’s all about kissing. I love kissing. If I could kiss all day, I would. I can’t stop thinking about kissing. I like kissing more than sex because there’s no end to it. You can kiss forever. You can kiss yourself into oblivion. You can kiss all over the body. You can kiss yourself to sleep. And when you wake up, you can’t stop thinking about kissing. Dammit, I can’t get anything done because I’m so busy thinking about kissing. Kissing is madness! But it’s absolute paradise, if you can find a good kisser.
