Good Running Music: The Ultimate, Random and Incomplete Playlist To Get Off Your Ass

Trying to catch up to your new years resolution? Tired of always listening to the same tunes every time you work out? Here is an unfinished selection (more posts like these will follow) of songs that will get you off your butt and on the mood for working out. I try to run a couple of miles every other day as I catch up with all the recommendation I receive at blas at themusicninja dot com and I have found that Fort Minor’s The Raising Tied is pretty much the best motivational album to listen to when I work out. If you enjoy the first 2 songs I urge you to buy the entire CD, you will not be disappointed! This list is obviously biased as I enjoy Fast-rock, hip/hop and trance when I go out running. I tried to keep it balanced and non-gendered specific. Some is very old, some is very new. I read a couple of forums and websites that runners recommended songs and I believe I created a pretty awesome list. But like always, I leave it to you to be the judge.

    Song I enjoyed most:

Annie – Antonio (Designer Drugs Remix)

But the two Fort Minor tracks are cool, never heard of them before.

  2. Great list, enjoyed browsing the site. Love that you focus on less mainstream music. I make running mixes for my wife and Fort Minor “Remember the name” was always in there, until I started looking at beats per minute (BPM) and how it effects running pace. At 86 BPM, that song is way to slow for most runners. I recently posted some songs w/ faster BPM to match mile running pace here:

Has Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys, The Kills, The The, B.A.D., T-Rex and more. Keep up the great work w/ music ninja!

LOVE that you’ve got Fort Minor in this list – they’re amazing. I especially liked Kenji and Slip Out the Back. Really appreciate that they’re putting out their view, thoughts, political values through their music – making people think.
I usually run to The Presets – Are you the one?, Apple of the Eye by Something with Numbers and Curiousity by Dallas Crane – the last song always picks me back up and keeps me going. But I try to sing along while I’m running which is a bad idea!
