[Hip-Hop] Talib Kweli – Attack The Block (Mixtape)

Talib Kweli is one of the lyrical masters of the game, so when he puts out free music, it’s a good idea to pay attention. Attack The Block may serve as a teaser to his upcoming album, Prisoner of Conscious, but it’s definitely a standout project all on its own. The 18-track project features verses from an eclectic group of artists including Black Thought, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Ryan Leslie, Ab-Soul, Das Racist, and even more. It’s this diverse selection of artists that really makes the mixtape distinctive from Kweli’s previous ventures.

[Hip-Hop] Rapsody- Nonfiction ft. Raheem DeVaughn & Ab-Soul (Prod. 9th Wonder)

9th Wonder’s protege and NC rapper Rapsody is prepping for the release of her debut album titled The Idea of Beautiful, dropping August 28th. With the release of her latest single “Nonfiction”, she stays consistent with the 9th Wonder old-school NYC emcee production while recruiting the lyrical talents of Ab-soul and singing and rapping abilities of Raheem DeVaughn. The trio bring an end to that “bubble-gum rap” with some pure hip-hop for your eardrums. Ab-Soul kills the track with a sick 16 bar feature, Raheem’s voice blends well with the percussion heavy, vocal looped beat, and the talented female emcee Rapsody delivers with witty and lyrically impressive rhymes. Rapsody deserves a lot of respect for her genuine artistic integrity in a genre often lacking strong, positive female representation. This is definitely a banger and needs to be in steady rotation on your playlist for hip-hop enthusiasts.
