[Hip-Hop] Joey Bada$$ – Get Paid

Joey Bada$$
Get Paid

NYC emcee Joey Bada$$ is back with a new tune that is a dose of that throwback rap. The single “Get Paid” is a dope, head-nodding track that gives off a 90’s basement rap feel with knocking bass and cool lyrics that don’t sell him out as an emcee. The young rap star puts his Pro Era team on as he gives listeners a sense of what drives him–money, the mythical root of all evil and driving force of capitalism. As soon as the boom-bap production of DJ Relly Rell hits, Joey is poised on the track and commands the mic with an aggressive flow.

This is the second single off Joey’s upcoming debut album, B4DA$$. Although no drop date has been confirmed yet for the project, fans can whet their appetites knowing that production from Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, and Hit-Boy will be featured on the LP. Take a listen to the fresh single now and be sure to catch him on his latest tour.

[Electronic] Anna Of The North – Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Anna of the North
Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)(Free DL)

For those of you who may have first caught wind of The Chainsmokers through “Selfie” (and who blames you), you may not know that the duo got their first following in the industry by producing remixes of some of the most eclectic group of indie artists in the market today. They were some listener’s first introductions to Say Lou Lou, ASTR, and Banks. Now that the two are on two bigger and grander things like XM Radio shows, multimillion dollar recording deals, and creators of the song that nearly broke Youtube, they decided to take a nostalgic trip back to their indie roots and try out a new remix. Luckily for us, they picked up TMN-favorite Anna Of The North and her single “Sway” and bring her into the spotlight. The Norwegian dream pop starlet gets her angelic voice reinforced by the Chainsmokers’ outstanding production which is quite honestly a match made in heaven. AOTN was our best kept secret, but it seems like she will be ruling the airwaves sooner than we previously thought thanks to this long-anticipated remix by two of the industry’s best.

[New] Kendrick Lamar – i

Kendrick Lamar
i

After two long years, the wait is finally over for some new Kendrick Lamar to hit your eardrums. Remaining relatively quiet in the music scene, the west coast emcee seemed to have taken a backseat to let his Top Dawg brethren quietly take over the music scene. Schoolboy Q saw his debut, Oxymoron, receive top praises, Isaiah Rashad has made a name for himself with his EP Cilvia Demo, and SZA delivered some chill vibes with her solo project Z. Now that the music scene is more familiar with the crew, Lamar steps back into the spotlight with a long-awaited single for our listening enjoyments.

The track “i” is an uplifting anthem that is sonically a little something different from the rap star. Introduced by a boasting soundbite, a Rahki-produced guitar heavy Isley Brothers “That Lady” sample drops flipping the beat. K-dot quickly jumps on the track spitting some quick-tongued bars about self-love and acceptance. The momentum and positive message do not let up throughout ending with a smooth transition into a jazz, 70’s classic rhythm and vibe. The track definitely invokes the feel of some old-school, but takes a couple listens to fully grow on you.

Kendrick’s follow-up to good kid, M.A.A.D. city is set to drop later this year and is rumored to feature production from Dr. Dre and a lot of in-house production from the TDE camp. This much-anticipated single is now available for purchase on iTunes.

Rihanna
Rudeboy (AObeats Flip)

When you see a Rihanna remix on your horizon, it’s easy to have doubts. We’ve had really good and really bad edits of everyone’s favorite bad girl; luckily this one falls into the former. AOBeats is one of the best talents you may have not heard of and on his newest remix to celebrate 5,000 on Facebook, he’s out to prove why. Perfectly blending together the island sounds that made “Rudeboy” a radio jam and the future beats sound he has pioneered his budding career, the Moving Castle-affiliated beatmaker truly sets the bar higher with his effort on this one.

[Hip Hop/Rap] Tate Tucker – M.O.E.

Tate Tucker
M.O.E. (Prod. Garrett Lodge)

It’s unfortunately far too rare for music videos these days to serve a purpose and visually tell a story that the lyrics sometimes cannot. We are constantly bombarded with product placements and sex appeal in our entertainment, so it’s extremely refreshing for upcoming talent to show that the art of the music video isn’t truly dead. I am of course referring to Tate Tucker’s newest project “M.O.E.”. Obviously, the title refers to the common phrase “Money Over Everything”, however this isn’t your typical boom-bap club hit. Tucker is one of the most creative people in the game today and it clearly shows with not only the record itself, but the visuals as well. The video is nothing short of a wild ride, whether it’s a day-to-day portrayal of Tucker’s life remains to be unseen. However, it packs more action in it than “Anaconda” on repeat for a month, and is definitely worth checking out.

[Chill] Bob Marley – Waiting In Vain (RÆVE Feat. JahSon Cover)

Bob Marley
Waiting In Vain (RÆVE Ft. JahSon Cover)

Every blogger worth his salt has heard at least four hundred Bob Marley covers or remixes in their day. As you can see, it’s very easy for the quality ones to get lost in the mix. And even if they are good, they usually aren’t too creative. However, RÆVE & JahSon are here to flip the script with their own interpretation of “Waiting In Vain”. JahSon lays down an incredible cover of the Marley classic, while RÆVE does the rest with his own blend of tropical sounds and house beatwork. As the winter months draw close, expect the Ninja team to keep this one in heavy rotation.
