Mary J. Blige ∞ Family Affair (Pakem Edition)
Another work week is almost in the books, and yet another young producer has been added to our radar of ‘ones to watch’ through the tail end of 2014. Seemingly popping up out of nowhere on our Soundcoud feed was this groovy little remix of Mary J. Blige’s timeless “Family Affair” from 19 year old French electronic producer Pakem, and it held our undivided attention from the jump-off. Pakem’s remix fuses a hollow future tipping bassline with a neo-garage soul and sensibility we haven’t seen exhibited since hearing Disclosure’s early demos before they were signed to Greco-Roman. While not much is currently known about our newest electronic crush, we’re certainly going to be all ears as his already mature library grows.
