’Mac Miller – The Star Room  (OG VERSION)’

Mac Miller took to his twitter a few minutes ago to casually let loose an incredible previously unreleased cut that features production from the legendary Pete Rock and a ScHoolboy Q guest verse. “Melt” has a jazzy summer groove to it with layered piano melodies, an addicting bassline and a humming vocal loop. Mac’s goofy flow shines over the lush backdrop and, although we are not accustomed to laid back verses from Q, the TDE emcee switches things up for some smooth, creative bars.

Mac’s most recent album, Watching Movies With the Sound Offwas released exactly a year ago and the SoundCloud description for “Melt” reads ‘movies we didn’t watch’ suggesting it just missed the cut for that project. Earlier today, as further celebration of the album anniversary, Mac also released the original version of the opening song“The Star Room,” which strips down the production completely transforming its tone into a relaxed, introspective one. Check out both of these unique, surprise releases above.

[NEW] Ab-Soul – Hunnid Stax (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Ab-Soul
Hunnid Stax Ft. ScHoolboy Q

Ab-Souls long-anticipated sophomore album is set to drop in two weeks and, earlier today, the LA-based emcee unleashed a dope track featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment representative, Schoolboy Q“Hunnid Stax” opens with Soul stating, “people treat you real nice when you’ve got $50 draws on” before the menacing, hazy production of Kenny Beats takes a hold.

While the title suggests a stereotypical rap song about money, reminiscent of Odd Future’s recent skit, fans of Ab-Soul’s first album, Control System, will recognize the implied irony in his bars. ScHoolboy Q’s gritty vocals could not fit the beat better and Mac Miller contributes a brief chorus of sorts that helps add to the mischievous vibe. Enjoy this one above and keep an eye out for These Days…, which drops on June 24th.

Mac Miller recruits one half of Mobb Deep for his latest offering. Produced by Alchemist and Larry Fisherman (Mac’s alter-ego), the song diverges toward a much different aesthetic than we’re accustomed to from the Pittsburgh native. Prodigy and Mac both flex their lyrical dexterity as they detail their accounts of a convenience store robbery, making this one of the more clever and mature Mac Miller tracks to date. It’s definitely been interesting tracking his progress over the last few months since he first established his SoundCloud account. Mac’s next album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off should be dropping soon.
