[Chill] Mos Def- Ms Fat Booty (WoodysProduce Summer Citrus Remix)

Mos Def
Ms Fat Booty (WoodysProduce Summer Citrus Remix)

Mos Def may go down in the history books as one of the greatest hip-hop lyricists of all time. As far as I’m concerned, it’s and Andre 3000’s game to lose at this point. Though he has moved into new mediums, there is no denying his artistic capabilities and Ms. Fat Booty was years ahead of its time when it first came out. WoodysProduce is quickly becoming one of Los Angeles’ best kept secret and on his last effort for his Summer Citrus series, he brings new school sounds to the old school classic. Laying down some original guitar work and resampling Aretha’s “One Step Ahead”, the entire composition of the track is shifted and we think you’ll find this version is better suited for your partying needs.

[LIVE] Yasiin Bey – The Light Is Not Afraid of the Dark

While out at The Shrine in Chicago the other night, Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) decided to premiere an unreleased joint called “The Light Is Not Afraid of the Dark.” Originally intended for his third studio album, Tru3 Magic, the Kanye West-produced track unfortunately never made the final cut. Deciding to dig it out of the grave though, Mos decided it would only be appropriate to breathe new life into the track in Kanye’s hometown. Some of you may or may not remember, but the release of Tru3 Magic was rife with controversy, as Mos pushed it out with no real promotion or official album art. Many even reported that the album was unfinished, which may explain why gems like these were left off the record. Let’s just hope Mr. Bey continues with his giving mood and provides us with a proper version of this track sometime soon. A few more songs from the vault wouldn’t hurt either.

They Die By Dawn

Although I was completely unaware of the upcoming movie They Die By Dawn before this morning, the title track from the soundtrack has certainly piqued my interest. The fittingly theatrical cut features two highly regarded, yet elusive, emcees in Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and Jay Electronica who help create a vivid musical trailer over a steadily building western-influenced instrumental. They Die By Dawn is set to be released later this year and its cast will include Michael K Williams and Erykah Badu among several other notable names. In the meantime, hop on your horse, grab your musket and turn the volume up.

Max Tannone, best known for his mash-up album Jaydiohead: The Encore, is a producer of hip-hop beats and dance music that recently released another mash-up album mixing Mos Def’s lyrical style with varied influential reggae artists. One of the most impressive songs out of this ten-track mash up madness is his take on the fusion of Mos Def and Talib Kweli with the roots reggae beats of Demsond Dekker.
