[Hip-Hop] Kendrick Lamar – The Blacker The Berry (Prod. Boi-1da)

Kendrick Lamar
The Blacker The Berry

TDE fans rejoice, as we finally have the pleasure of hearing the second single from the much anticipated follow up to good kid, m.A.A.d city. After locking up two Grammy awards for his previous single “i,” Kendrick Lamar has returned with the far more aggressive “The Blacker The Berry.” The Boi-1da produced cut should appease fans who may have been disappointed with Kendrick’s last effort. With an audacious chorus that claims, “The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice,” this new joint finds a fearless Kendrick slaughtering verses while touching on some sensitive issues, including racial tensions and gun violence. Check out the song below, and be on the lookout for more details on Kendrick’s upcoming album, which is set to drop later this year.

[Hip-Hop] Towkio – Involved (Feat. Vic Mensa) (Prod. Kaytranada)

Towkio
Involved Ft. Vic Mensa (Prod. Kaytranada)

Just in time for your Friday turn up, SaveMoney’s very own Towkio has released a funky new tune that’ll give you the irresistible urge to boogie the night away. Getting the dynamic duo of Vic Mensa and Kaytranada “Involved” on this one was a smart move, as the pair’s undeniable chemistry shines through once again. The Chitown natives exchange sleek raps atop a retro fueled instrumental with plenty of bounce, provided by Kaytra himself. At this point it’s pretty clear that these guys can do no wrong, which means fans should be rushing to listen to anything these two are “Involved” in. Check out the song above, and be on the lookout for Towkio’s .wav Theory, set to drop this April.

[Hip-Hop] Hodgy Beats – Dena Tape 2 (Mixtape)

Long-time Odd Future fans may remember Hodgy Beats‘s Dena Tape as one of the strongest projects to come out during the crew’s breakout years. Since that time, aside from a few solo releases, Hodgy has focused mainly on his collaborative MellowHigh and MellowHype projects with consistently solid results. Yesterday, Hodgy returned as a solo act in full force with Dena Tape 2. Keeping the vocal features to a minimum, Beats lets his quick-hitting, gritty delivery and lyrics take front and center over productions from Hit-BoyLeft BrainLakim, Marvel Alexander and more. Hodgy also holds his own over the instrumentals for Kendrick Lamar‘s “Sing About Me, I’m Dying for Thirst” and Outkast‘s “Aquemini.” This project definitely has a more cohesive feel than its predecessor displaying Hodgy’s growth artistically, both from a delivery perspective and content-wise. Give our favorite tracks a listen and, if you like what you hear, you can grab the whole mixtape for free at the link below:

[Hip-Hop] Young Fathers – Rain or Shine

YOUNG FATHERS
Rain Or Shine

Coming off a huge year, experimental hip-hop group Young Fathers continue to push their sound forward with their latest single, which comes along with the announcement of their upcoming sophomore album. As with most of their material, “Rain or Shine” defies classification with an energy that balances rap, rock and pop. A vintage organ and heavy percussion create a unique sort of chaos as the Young Fathers bring in chanting vocals. Following a common motif in their music, the Scottish-based trio cover social issues and power struggle with a distinct, poetic delivery backed by soaring backing harmonies. Give this one a spin above– Young Father’s upcoming album, White Men Are Black Too, is due out on April 7th on Big Dada Recordings and is available for pre-order via iTunes now.

[Conscious Pop] Royal – Cycles EP

Royal has stepped away from his signature “refixes” to deliver one of the most important projects of 2015. Cycles, in short, is a landmark EP with its combination of a pop mentality and the ever fluctuating “future” state of mind. The level of production quality reflected here is a testament to just how much he has grown as an artist and come into his own sound since his monumental refix tape. He fearlessly has charged ahead and experimented with a slew of refreshing sounds and ideas. He even utilized his own vocals on here, while also calling on  Desktop. and Axel Mansoor for strong features that round out the record nicely. It’s hard to not get excited about the future of music when spectacular releases like this are becoming more and more of a common occurrence. Cycles is a crowning achievement of 2015 and Royal is going to end up being a household name in the very near future. That’s a guarantee.
