Beyonce‘s latest single has already taken over the radios, clubs, and your pre-game mix playlist, so it was only a matter of time before it got the remix treatment. In the news of the unexpected, southern hit-maker DJ Mustard takes on the infectious party single with a unexpected flip to the beat. Adding a EDM backdrop and completely changing up the melody and rhythm, his latest remix to the track is definitely something that can help carry the song into the Spring and Summer playlist of 2015. Although this isn’t the first time Mustard has placed his work on the track, this is one of the few times we get to hear a electro-mix of his beat. At first, the track starts off with a simple synth beat until it is loaded with a multiple elements to tingle the eardrums and the senses. At times, it seems that Mustard just threw in whatever would sound good in the backdrop, but the eclectic track still carries the same fun-loving and free-spirited vibe that the original had-minus the chorus and Southern feel.

Although fans are still waiting patiently to hear any news or original material from Grammy-award winning singer/song-writer Frank Ocean, the west coast artist celebrated the late Aaliyah‘s birthday over the weekend with a cover to “At Your Best (You Are Love)”. Originally released from his Tumblr page, the Isley Brother‘s original gets a modernized touch. Ocean flexes a limited vocal range subtly hitting a variety of notes as he floats over the piano-led ballad. Similar to his last release “Memrise,” Ocean remains secretive about whether or not this is something that will be featured on an upcoming project or just another treat for fans to get into. Either way, music lovers can just rejoice in the fact that Ocean has not gone completely off the radar. Be sure to take a listen to the melodic track and stay posted for any new material to drop.

Don’t call it a comeback, but Detroit’s music scene made quite a comeback in 2014 thanks to innovative artists like Jack White, Danny Brown, and GRiZ. And while the Motor City is earning its mainstream appeal, it hasn’t lost its charm for independent and upcoming artists, such as the Gosh Pith duo. Inspired by the empty streets of their gritty city following nightlong raves and warehouse parties, the two created “Smoke Bellows”, yet the message is clear. True art is always out there, whether we know it or not. In a new era where artists can not only incorporate ideas and sounds from different genres, but distribute their creativity across multiple channels, the need and want for artists like Gosh Pith is becoming greater than ever and these two have the sonic intuition to have true staying power in the industry, whether it’s on stage or behind the scenes.

It is the season of giving and being thankful, so Franck Ocean wanted to give a little treat for anxious fans in the form of a new track via his Tumblr page. “Memrise” is a brief, somber listen from the young star. After the success of channel ORANGE, Ocean has been pretty much MIA from the music scene. Either he has been in the studio cooking up another record or just enjoying the success of his debut, most likely the former. Regardless of speculations, today is the first listen of what Ocean has been working on and the new direction he is going with his sound.

The two-minute track starts off hazy with a knocking-beat followed by some keys and altered vocals. The singer/songwriter croons about a past love and the memories of their connection. The track comes across as more of an intro or snippet than anything full length. No news on when we are to expect some new music from the hit-maker, but we’ll take this one for now. It’s easy to see why Juicy J is still a relevant and prominent artist in the music game. His latest collaboration, “Four,” with hit-makers Cashmere Cat and BenZel finds the Memphis emcee spitting a smooth verse over a dope beat. It is a rarity to hear some new music from Benzel, but it is always welcome and the production duo deliver an addicting track. The unique blend of southern flows over a lounge-esque beat makes for a chill listen that is sure to get heavy rotation on anyone’s playlist. No news on when this single will be available for purchase or if it is tied to another project. So, for now, sit back and enjoy some sonic euphoria.

It may not be Thanksgiving just yet, but the holidays brought out the softer side with a new tune from the Queens emcee, Nas. Apparently ‘Tis “The Season” for the rapper to deliver some new music for our listening enjoyment. Backed by a classic “Gobstopper”-sample from the legendary J.Dilla, the latest single is a smooth, percussion filled track with a nice jazzy vibe. After previewing this gem last night during Run the Jewels 2 event in Brooklyn, Nas unveiled the full-length studio version today for fans to get into.

Balancing snares and horns with some spoken words, Nas remains humble as he pays homage to the late producer and speaks on not being able to enjoy the spoils of his success. It is good to know that even with all the success, Nas still takes the time to give fans some original, reflective work. Nas also credits his brother The Jungle for his source of inspiration and denies ever getting rhymes from Jay-Z or his protege Jay Electronica. Take a listen to the new single and be sure to stay tuned to hear more.

We first fell in love with Love & Valor back in August with their debut single “Truly Dear”. The reception on that (over 10,000 plays) inspired the North Carolina quartet to go and record a full-length EP, and it’s an absolute must buy.
