Random music goodness! Ah, a very busy week. I was not able to post as many songs as I was planning this week… which makes this Random Music Fridays my outlet for what I was holding back this week.

Electronic/Remixes

We start of with a “Super Mix” from a very talented DJ that goes by the name of Akilles. I had a chance to talk to him about his new remix/mashup “In For the Kill”. This is what he had to say:

“it’s actually a mash of 3 different remixes of La Roux’s hit “In For the Kill”. It starts off with Lifelike’s remix against Clash the Disko Kids and Ming’s ‘Lo-fi 1 AM’ mix and then midway through Last Japan’s Skream re-edit bass heavy monster crashes the party. I have always wondered why people don’t put together all the good remixes of a particular song, because each one has its unique attributes. This way it’s like a supermix, you get the collective genius of a couple of great producers all rolled into one song. Kinda like killing many birds with one stone huh?”

Kind of like killing many birds with one stone??? This is more like killing a population of birds with one machine gun!! The remix is totally so dope.

Electroacoustic
Orlando, the city I live in and the very title of this beutiful song by Polynya. A mellow electronic song unlike anything I have heard of before. I cant quite describe the feeling I get with the soothing high vocals in an electroacoustic environment that at times, its disguised unorgnized melodies suprisingly produce the richest harmonies. Polynya is an indie/electronic/concrete band from Chapel Hill, NC USA that just released their new album Crop Rotation available at Amazon and iTunes

    Sorry, but I can’t say I’m a fan of the Akilles MixMash…

I appreciate the idea that is supposed to be happening here but the execution is.. well.. bad.

Like at 1:30 when halfway through the bar the beat just randomly drops? If it had been dropped on the first beat it might have made a cool effect but I was stuck just trying to feel the offbeat groove that was trying to happen… Then I couldn’t stop hearing the subtle tempo stutters that kept happening between the two tracks.

Finally I lost complete interest halfway through when Vocal melody (contrasting) over vocal melody… was finally ended with the drop of a tempo change to a reworking of a Skream dubstep Classic!

” I have always wondered why people don’t put together all the good remixes of a particular song,”

    - I think because in a lot of ways it won’t work. You can mix remix into another remix but a mashup of remixes might just create a cacaphony of shit, especially if you’re remixing without using the stems…

Honestly I totally see where you were trying to go with this, but if I saw you performing this live, regardless of if you were actually mixing the tracks together on the spot, I would instantly think “TRAINWRECK!”
