Random Music Friday [Fresh New Music Edition]

randommusicfriday

Happy Friday everyone! The weekend is here and as for most of my weekends, random things always end up happing. Whenever I do a Random Music Friday I like to keep it as random as possible with music from all genres and from all eras. However, today will not be the case as I will only post new music. I have been fortunate enough to have artists send me their music to post on the site and it would just be unfair to post old songs with such great talent coming in. Enjoy!

We start off with a colorful experimental/instrumental song. “In Knowing” is a playful synthetic pop tune graced with the sweet and cheerful vocals of lead vocalist Meadow Eliz that along with multi-instrumentalist Chris Clarke, Jo Sorrell in the cello and Justin Grizzof working the guitar and percussions, make up Swimming in Speakers. If you enjoy this song make sure you listen to “Near my Ear” and “Serve Them Well”

We move into a more psychedelic band called Psychedelic Disco Angels from Jersey City. Row Bong is probably the chillest psychedelic song from their their debut album “Credito O No Credito“, its mellowness is contagious reminding me of the slower songs of Mars Volta. Make sure you check out their single “Evil House” that is part of their upcoming album “Digital Power” releasing this fall,

A funky, electronic and sprinkles of pop song gracefully made its way to my inbox titled “Hollywood Sound” from Binary artist LexiconDom. What is particular unique about this track is how well the vocals and lyrics come in to play. The electronic beat is great by itself but once you add the vocals the song become a beautiful electronic masterpiece.

How do you make a good hip/hop song sound TEN TIMES BETTER… make sure Ambience, a production team from Sweden, gets to remix it. Seriously, I had not really heard Bobby Valentinos new “Hand On Me” before I heard the remixed version and the comparison is just off the charts. They were able add their own remix without taking away the feel and emotion of the original beat. I hope to hear from these guys a lot more in the future.

Mellow Music Madness

relaxed_kitten

Another installment of the madness of the mellows. Songs to pamper your heart rate. This time I am trying to reach out into different genres for mellow songs. We have some amazing chill trance thanks to Velvet Girl, a slow spanish rock by Nacho Vega, the interesting sounds of Rob Dougan, a remix with the one and only radiohead and soothing vocals from Landon Pigg and new music from Andrew Birds latest EP titled “Fitz & the Dizzyspells”

The very song from the Tv Commercial Diamonds are Forever that appeared early last year from Landon Piggs. A slow and heartfelt song with melodies carefully put together for your enjoyment.

“Falling in love at a Coffee Shop” – Landon Pigg

”Falling in love at a Coffee Shop”

Have you ever seen the Matrix? If so, you will probably recognize Rob Dougan’s “Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino variation)”. Rob is a genre-blenind music composer from Sydney, Australia known for mixing elements of orchestral music, tirp hop and bluesy lyrics. His voice is soo damn cool and chilled.. its perfect for this mellow post.

“Nothing At All” – Rob Dougan

”Nothing At All”

Self-described as a rock-singer-songwriter, Nacho Vegas blends the polyhedric language of rock and the most stark lyricism into an intense whole. His lyrics are painful and celebratory, pathetic and grand, brutally lucid and of an intimate beauty; a desperate philosophy of survival shines with a wicked sense of humour and a longing for the divine.

“Dry Martini, S. A” – Nacho Vegas

”Dry Martini, S. A”

The talented songwriter multi-instrumentalist from Chicago, Andrew Bird, just released a new ep Bird’s new Fitz and the Dizzyspells. “See The Enemy” which is a variation on “Anonanimal”

“Andrew Bird” – See The Enemy

”See The Enemy”

And of course we have to have some electronic mellow trance courtesy of Velvet Girl.
“A New Dawn” Velvet Girl

”A New Dawn”

This might not be the chillest song in the world, but I am a sucker for anything radiohead. Due to their huge sucesss, I would say hundreds of remixes are being created everyday and it is just a delight when you come across a good one.

Close your eyes and dream about Ghost in the Water

ghost_in_the_water

Weightless rain drops of electronic pop sprinkling down from melodic clouds to fill your ear with the proper nourishment you’ve been longing. Ghost in the Water’s calm and soothing sound can either lift you up from many of your worries as you wake up early on a beautiful Monday morning or bring back haunted memories as you reminisce the past. Whatever the side effect may be, Ghost in the Water is definitely a duo worth checking out. Their song “A Nightmare” rich in melodic bells with small doses of glitchs and taps, soft in sound yet powerful in emotion captivated me to check out their album “Tooth”. Some of their songs remind me of the mellower songs of jimmy tamborello project’s dntel. I have also included a couple of remixes I came across while I getting more info about them.

Looking back: its great to be Huma

huma

I just discovered today ( a little late since they released their EP “We Are Here For You” in 2006, and “Some Things Come and Go” in sept 2008) and I am enjoying their unique and organic sounding folk electronic sound. Music for Humans by Huma, their style is still very acoustic and subtle even though they describe themselves as electronic. An easy listen that will get you though the day this Wednesday evening.

“A brother. A sister. A best friend/girlfriend. Kids behind counters making music on coffee breaks. Teachers after school playing NYC late. Librarians singing softly in the stacks. We started in New Jersey with a self-released EP bringing together pastoral pop with an electronic twitch. So many sounds combined in every scene lived. It became shows played and friends made. It became an album released on Cult-Hero records in 2006 called “We Are Here For You.” It became a tour, more shows and continues to spread. It became a new home on the west coast. Here we are today. Nothing stays the same. It’s about writing new songs for new releases and playing for new faces. We will be happy to answer any questions.”

Another Robot Sunset – "Goodbye I'm Gone"

indexOdd duets make awesome music. It is certainly true for Another Robot Sunset, an indie electronic hip hop band from Nashville. Cadence was a rapper. Padgett was a physicist. They met, started making music together, and The Amber Ep was born. I think CDBaby said it best “This is what would happen if a rapper and a scientist got stranded on a desert island with only a casio keyboard and a drum computer”. As a huge fan of bands that mix electronic/experimental beats with hip-hop, The Robot Sunset hit the spot. Throughout their album you will notice they are more electronic than hip-hop and it really works to their advantage. They dont simple lay down a beat and rap over it. The vocals/raps almost seems secondary to the harmonious electronic melodies that make up every song, which makes them an easy listen… even for non hip/hop fans. Although The Amber EP, released in 2007, is probably the last and only album we will hear from them.. I just couldnt help myself to not exprses how great they sound.

The Acoustically Glitchy "Pop Ooga" from Shuta Hasunuma

popooga

The melodic glitch music master Shuta Hasunuma from Tokyo, Japan lets loose an endless array of gorgeous and restless rhythms and melodies on his new LP Pop Ooga. Throughout the album he seamlessly folds funky bass and synth lines, graceful guitar, and breathy vocal harmonies into his web of glitch-pop-concrete. Like the album’s artwork, the music evokes its own unique design – neatly cut acoustic edges within a new, visceral, time-lapsed version of reality. Literally blending bells and whistles into an infectious, breezy dose of melodic sunshine, expect to be caught in an addictive, vinyl trance that will have you eagerly resetting your stylus again and again. If you enjoy experimental music you should definitely consider checking out his new album. Two of my favorite songs from the album are “Soul OSCI” and the more soothing “Vol Struggle”. This is a much more melodic and ambient style of the glitch-music/glitch-pop genre and its surprisingly refresh to the ears.
