[R&B/Chill] Rich Hil – Nomads ft The Weeknd

The apple seems to fall from the tree. As the son of the well-known designer Tommy Hilfiger, Rich Hil drops some new tunes for the interwebs this week. Mixing dark tunes with his raspy voice, this singer croons over an atmospheric beat complete with snares and hi-hats on the single “Nomads”. Almost a drug-induced feel and vibe, it is only right that he recruits the talents of the drug-and-sex oriented Canadian singer The Weeknd to emphasize the “tortured-soul” vibe of Hillfiger’s rebelious son’s painful lyircs. A theme that can be heard throughout his entire debut album SYLDD. As a huge gift to the fans and a middle-finger to his record label, Hil released his debut album for free here, via Noisey.

[Chill] Chrisette Michelle – Charades ft 2 Chainz

Chrisette Michelle has coined the title of this modern-day pre- and post-break-up songstress in the game. From her debut smash hit “Be Ok” to her equally successful single “Epiphany(I’m Leaving)” ft Drake, her repertoire of hits is very reminiscent of 90’s Mary J.Blige R&B with a more classic jazz/hip-hop sound. With her latest single “Charades”, she croons about the hesistation to get to know someone on a romantic level after being burned in the past. The Wizzy Wow produced track gives off a mellow vibe with some synth beats and soft, vulnerable vocals from the songstress. Unexpectedly, 2 Chainz joins the singer as the dude whose intentions are in question. There is a certain calm that group Cocaine 80s‘ music brings when you hit the play button. It could be the dope No I.D. production or just the smooth vibe the group brings to a track but their latest single is another dose of that sick laid-back sound that has become signature. Collaborating with the newly signed Def Jam vocalist Jhene Aiko and Chitown vet Common, the blending of soothing vocals and hard drums makes this track from their upcoming effort a great listen. [Experimental] Kids of the Apocalypse – Masters of the Sun

With the heavy influence of EDM and dubstep in mainstream music over the past couple years, the boundaries for genres of music have become increasingly non-existant. As 2013 hits, the sound of “pop” music is involving into more of an eclectic mix that was once only heard on the underground. This concept is becoming more apparent with the debut single “Masters of the Sun” from newcomers Kids of the Apocalypse. [New] Frank Ocean – Wise Man

Odd Future artist Frank Ocean has been having a great year. From his critically acclaimed and top selling debut to topping Entertainment Weekly’s list of Best Albums of 2012. Just in time for the holiday season, the R&B crooner leaks a new track for fans titled “Wise Man”. Although originally recorded for the upcoming Tarantino Django Unchained flick, this poetic ballad didn’t make the final cut. It is signature Ocean style with deep lyrics about the good and bad of man that is continuously pushed forward by an old western guitar rip and some drum work.
