[Feels] Soulection – 100K (Free Album)

’IAMNOBODI – Soulection Anthem’
’Sango – Deixe
me’
’ESTA x LAKIM – W Hotel’

Last night, I came across a tweet from Soulectionaffiliated producer Dpat that read, “Emotional Dance Music.” While it was likely intended as a joke, this perfectly describes the genre emerging from the impressive LA-based collective whose roster includes some of the brightest up ‘n coming talents in electronic music today. Melding sounds of classic R&B with experimental elements of various EDM genres, the artists of Soulection have created a unique vibe that is airy, lo-fi and relaxing, yet completely danceable.

Earlier today, to celebrate gaining 100,000 followers on their Soundcloud page, Soulection put out a free compilation full of new material that demonstrates exactly how they have gotten to this point. 100k is an incredibly dope collection that captures the scope of the crew’s talents and uniquely soothing style. Feel the feels with a few of our favorite tracks above and grab the whole project HERE.

[Hip-Hop] AGO – Tuebor (Mixtape)

After dropping the highly underrated NSDE/OUTSDE EP late last year (one that we failed to cover unfortunately), Waldo returns with the rest of his AGO crew hoping to rekindle the same magic he found with his previous release. Consisting of additional members Joose, Amos Rose, The SEVENth and Sango, AGO is a collective from Grand Rapids, Michigan hoping to establish themselves in a hip-hop scene where the concept of the crew has become more prominent than ever.

Tuebor is a step in the right direction for the group, as the talented emcees all get a chance to flaunt their skills and bring some knowledge to what the Michigan lifestyle is really about. Featuring a wealth of talented producers like Mr. Carmack, AbJo, Mozaic, and of course The SEVENth and Sango, where Tuebor really prospers is in the diversity of its sounds. From the introspective “What Dreams Are Made Of” to the soulful “Royal Oats” and the grimy trap stylings of “The Garden,” each song has a style of its own, helping to provide the individual members with their own identities, while still resulting in a cohesive overall product. Nothing gets old on Tuebor, and if you find you don’t like a particular track, chances are you’ll enjoy the next one. Rather than take our word for it though, you can find out for yourself, by streaming the full project here. As we always do, we’ve sprinkled in a few of our top selections from the mixtape below, and you can grab a copy for yourself if you’re so inclined.

[Instrumental Remix] AbJo – Exhibit AbJo

AbJo
Exhibit AbJo

If you were a hip-hop head like I was back in 2008, then Jay Electronica‘s “Exhibit A” was one of the greatest things to ever grace your eardrums. As a certified hip-hop classic at this point, looking back it’s easy to see why Jay Electronica was able to garner the hype that he did. Of course that resonant Just Blaze instrumental played an integral part in the single’s success as well. Why mention all of this? Sometimes to better understand a song’s meaning, you have to revisit the history behind it. This brand new remix from San Diego’s AbJo is already mind blowing on its own, but if I’d never heard “Exhibit A,” I don’t think I’d attach so much sentimental value to it. The talented young proudcer was able to properly capture the essential elements of the original composition, while adding in his own unique backbeat and snares to provide it with new life. It’s a wonderful blend of both old and new, and I don’t think I’d be the only one curious to see what Jay could do with this instrumental.

[Hip-Hop] Dag Savage – The Warning Tape

When Exile and Johaz first united as Dag Savage back in 2012, it was abundantly clear that they’d be a force to be reckoned with. While that promise didn’t exactly hold up in 2013 due to a lack of releases, it’s now become clear that’s only because the duo was entrenched in the studio perfecting their sound. With their new album, E&J, on the horizon, the California twosome are finally ready to properly unveil themselves to the world, dropping The Warning Tape this month to put the rest of the game on notice. Sporting features from a diverse group of artists that includes Blu, Co$$, ANTHM, Aloe Blacc and more, the 13-track effort explores a multitude of different sounds, putting to light the versatility of both Exile as a producer, and Johaz as an emcee. You can find a download link to the mixtape below, as well as a few of our favorite selections from the project. Dag Savage’s E&J is set to drop on Februrary 4th, and pre-orders can be found here
