Sunday Night Soul [Vol. 51]

In honor of the most romantic of all holidays (Easter, of course), we’ve decided to revive a little something from our past. Sunday Night Soul was a weekly series focused around bringing you the best in R&B from around the web to help you wind down at the end of your weekend. No, this is not an April Fool’s joke (at least we hope not), but we have made a few changes to help make things a bit more manageable for both us and you. For one, we’ve decided to shorten the playlists this time around to allow you to truly appreciate each week’s offering in its entirety. Secondly, we’ll be making our playlists available on SoundCloud and Spotify as well, so make sure to follow us on both platforms if you don’t already! With that being said, in the wise words of the honorable SZA, just sit back, relax and ease your mind as you dig into the tracks below.

Lollapalooza 2016: Our Top Takeaways [Event Review]

lolla-1

As with any music festival, after Lollapalooza is over, it always takes us a few days to digest everything and snap back to reality. For locals, the festival serves as an escape within our own city. For outsiders, it provides them with a completely unique way to experience Chicago. The magic of Lollapalooza is simply unmatched, and despite a weather scare early on, Lollapalooza 2016 turned out to be just as memorable as years past. This year in particular will most likely stick out in the minds of many as it marked the 25th anniversary of the festival. Because of this, much of the weekend was filled with nostalgia as artists reflected on some of their past memories of playing the festival or of their ambitions to take the stage in Grant Park while growing up. For the first time ever, this year also added an additional day of festivities, kicking things off early on Thursday to commemorate the festival’s legacy. On the next few pages we’ve broken down some of our lasting impressions from Lolla 2016.

[Electronic] JAHKOY – Let It Be

JAHKOY
Let It Be

When sifting through SoundCloud to find new music, the best moment is to find a song that you can’t pinpoint a specific genre to because it is so creative. My latest discovery was JAHKOY. The Canadian jack-of-all-trades produces, sings, and song-writes tracks that combine influences from pop, dance, and even hip-hop.

His latest single to hit the Internet, “Let It Be,” is a true demonstration of this young producer’s artistic abilities. JAHKOY‘s slick bass quivers and shimmering synth melodies provide the perfect stage for his voice to shine above the rest. His lyrics are brisk like a hip-hop rhyme master while at the same time as catch as a pop singer. Overall, JAHKOY is an impressive talent to recently surface in music and definitely deserves the “follow” on Soundcloud because it seems like he is just getting started.
