In the last few years, Jamie xx, of the legendary alternative duo The xx, has produced some of the most creative tracks and remixes out, habitually crossing and blurring genre boundaries. Backed by captivating drums, this six-minute take on Holly Miranda’s Slow Burn Treason, ripped from his 2011 BBC 1 Radio Essential Mix, proves both haunting and incredibly relaxing. The xx’s second album, Coexist, is set to drop on September 11th and is sure to be a must listen for all music lovers. A thought-provoking instrumental great for zoning out the burdens of life.

Drake’s new album ‘Take Care’ is almost upon us being released November 15th. It apparently got leaked a couple of hours ago and to be honest I do not care much for it. I always found Drake to be a talented artist but have been disappointed with most of his other releases since his mixtape (maybe the hype was too high). Add to that some collaborations with Rihanna and I almost want to lay on the corner of my room in the fetal position. However, in all fairness, music is subjective and I am posting this to see the reaction. They did “try” to sound more indie involving Jamie Xx and sampling the late Gil-Scott Heron… but it almost feels more of a disservice.

The wonderfully-monikered Hoodie Allen is a rising star in hip-hop, and based on his reworking of ‘NY Is Killing Me’, it’s not hard to see why. Originally by Gil Scott-Heron and remixed by Jamie xx, Hoodie Allen’s fast-flowing lyrics fill the atmospheric soundscapes with a sense of urgency and passion as he tells his tales of love and hate set against the backdrop of New York. Sick beats power this reworking and will make it sure-fire club hit. The second track off his forthcoming mixtape ‘Leap Year’ (the brilliant ‘Dreams Up’ being the first) prove Hoodie Allen’s skills as a producer and rapper, making him an exciting new talent on the scene.

This delightful remix of British Soul Singer Adele’s “Rolling in The Deep” has been brought to us by Jamie XX of The XX.

If you’ve ever watched 30 Rock, you’ve already heard the words of Childish Gambino, who under his birth name of Donald Glover, is one of the show’s writers. He is a surprisingly capable MC on this song, showing up at almost three minutes into the song to bring it to a close.

The XX have won the Mercury Prize in the UK and Adele is a Grammy Winner. Childish Gambino, therefore, is the hidden gem in this song and possibly its greatest asset. There’s a lot going on in this mix, first of all i am a big fan of Adele so i might be little bias to this song, but it doesn’t mean its not a good mix yo! the smokey powerhouse vocals of Adele, clap base throw in some voice modulation and some tropical beats because this recently released single deserves a good ol’ fashion messing with… in a good way. Rolling in the Deep is from the upcoming album of Adele called ’21’ released January 24 2011, so mark your calendars people.
