[Hip-Hop] IshDARR – Old Soul, Young Spirit

We’ve made our praise of Milwaukee native IshDARR pretty open so far, but if you didn’t get the message the first few times, let us be clear right now: DO NOT sleep on this guy. Although still only eighteen years old, his age shouldn’t fool you; IshDARR is the real deal, and Old Soul, Young Spirit is his way of putting his stamp on the game.

Old Soul, Young Spirit is a solid project through and through, representing the strides the burgeoning talent has made in just a few months since the release of The Better Life EP. What’s most remarkable is the way he approaches each track, as he brings with him a melodic cadence and astute lyricism that in many ways builds on the best qualities of Chance The Rapper & GoldLink. Rapping with a youthful ferocity that’s balanced by a mature composure, IshDARR could not have chosen a more appropriate name for his project.

You can preview some of our favorite selections from the mixtape below, but if you’d like the full experience, head over to IshDARR’s official SoundCloud page and also make sure to download a copy for yourself.

[Soul-Hop] William Bolton – Dream At Night (Feat. Dillon Ashton)

William Bolton
Dream At Night (ft. Dillon Ashton)

The young and intelligent William Bolton has many skills. You’ll have to dig into his Soundcloud to experience the records he produced himself – look for Times New Roman – but his new single ‘Dream At Night’ properly showcases his polished vocals. The relaxing production on this one is handled by Kaui Beats, an understated producer from NYC, and his soulful samples compliment the distinct vocal patterns of Bolton very well. Through his hometown connections in Detroit, Willy B adds Dillon Ashton on a verse to really mop the place up. This record will find it’s long-term home on his upcoming project, Love Supreme, sure to be available soon. Stay tapped into this guy, there are many tricks up his sleeve.

[Hip-Hop] Lucki Eck$ – Cholos

LUCKI ECK$
CHOLOS

Lucki Eck$ first grabbed our attention a couple years back with his debut mixtape, Alternative Trap, a supremely woozy, introspective take on the trap music coming out of his hometown of Chicago. Since then, he’s continued to delve deeper into that sound releasing an impressive follow-up in Body High positioning himself for big things this year. On his latest single, Eck$’s flow actually diverges a bit from his usual drowsy charm as he employs an infectious rolling delivery to match a jazzy instrumental provided by Infamous Legends. “Cholos” still holds the core facets of Lucki’s Xanax-inspired ethos but does so in a way that feels slightly more energetic with great results. Listen for yourself above–we’re excited to see what 2015 has in store for Eck$.

It G Ma (Madeaux Remix)

The forward thinking trap sound is exploding. Artists are receiving attention from elites like Skrillex, Diplo and numerous others. Over time, we have shared more and more of it, and today, we’re fortunate to premiere this new flip of Keith Ape’s “It G Ma” from rising talent, Madeaux.

Combining hip-hop style progressions and percussion with dubstep bass synths,  Madeaux creates an exhilarating atmosphere. The intense vocals and razor sharp synths are definitely dead set for a Saturday night, five star turn-up. Just don’t blame us when you wake up with a wicked hangover on Sunday morning.

[NEW] Kid Cudi – Love

Kid Cudi
love.

Kid Cudi has been showcasing his versatile talents outside of music recently–from starring in acclaimed Sundance films to joining the cast of Comedy Bang Bang. Even with a budding acting career, though, he recently announced  that he’ll be working on the long anticipated next chapter in the Man on the Moon series with the same team of collaborators who helped created his classic debut. This morning, Cudder took to Soundcloud to sneak release a new loosie titled “love.” Keeping the throwback vibes alive, Dot Da Genius, the producer behind “Day and Night” among other hits, adds to Cudi’s own production featuring a Ratatat sample making the perfect backdrop for his signature swooning, uplifting vocals. The chorus on this one erupts into stadium-worthy proportions and the layering of Ratatat guitar riffs add to that epic sound. Hopefully we’ll hear MOTM3 sooner rather than later but this should do a great job holding fans over until then.

[Video] Tory Lanez – Henny In Hand

Tory Lanez
Henny In Hand (Prod. Noah Breakfast + Matti Free)

When Tory Lanez first dropped “Henny In Hand” last fall, it was an instant favorite here at TMN. Now a few months later, we finally have equally stunning visuals for the mesmerizing single. Directed by Andrew Hines (who also helmed the visuals for “The Godfather“), the video opens with Tory seated in the VIP area of a club eyeing a female from afar. The woman accepts payment from another gentleman who offers to take her home, and the rest of the story unfolds with Tory following closely behind. We don’t want to reveal too many details though, as there’s certainly a few exciting twists near the end.

Peep the visuals below, and make sure to check out his most recent collaboration with Snakehips on “Dimelo.” Now that he’s wrapped up his second Lost Cause tour, expect even more music from Tory on the way. In the meantime, feel free to read what he had to say to us about the experience last month.
