[Chill] Bob Marley – Waiting In Vain (RÆVE Feat. JahSon Cover)

Bob Marley
Waiting In Vain (RÆVE Ft. JahSon Cover)

Every blogger worth his salt has heard at least four hundred Bob Marley covers or remixes in their day. As you can see, it’s very easy for the quality ones to get lost in the mix. And even if they are good, they usually aren’t too creative. However, RÆVE & JahSon are here to flip the script with their own interpretation of “Waiting In Vain”. JahSon lays down an incredible cover of the Marley classic, while RÆVE does the rest with his own blend of tropical sounds and house beatwork. As the winter months draw close, expect the Ninja team to keep this one in heavy rotation.

California

If you live in Los Angeles, chances are seeing a Soulection showcase has been on your bucket list for quite some time. With talents like starRo on the roster, it’s easy to see why. He’s spent the better part of 2014 becoming a household name with his incredible production chops and if you’re not on the hypetrain yet, we hope this will change your mind. “California” perfectly embodies the spirit of the state, its people, and its music scene: electric, laid-back, and soulful. [Chill] Christian Rich – Real Love

FMM: Christian Rich
Real Love

We’ve used chill to describe everything from tropical house to stoner rap; however this track from Christian Rich is the perfect embodiment of the word. “Real Love” reminds us a lot of early Daft Punk and their guitar licks, but knowing this Angeleno production duo, we can tell this was completely created from scratch. The two have made a name for themselves producing for some of the best rappers in the game today, however this cut on their debut EP “SS14” shows they can switch the style up with ease. As an added bonus, they shot it over to our favorite Annie Mac who has rereleased the record for free so you really have no excuse not to cop this one!

Electric Youth
Runaway (Maths Time Joy Remix)

Maths Time Joy may go down in the history books as one of the most criminally underrated artists of our generation. He is on the radar of most indie and eclectic blogs, but he hasn’t fully penetrated the mainstream circuit yet. As for Electric Youth, they truly are the gift that keeps on giving to the blogosphere. Add the two together and you get one of the best productions you will hear all weekend. Though minimal at times, MTJ’s edit sparks so much energy into “Runaway”, it’s practically contagious. I challenge you to listen to this without a smile on your face; it simply can’t be done.

[Chill] Shadows On Stars – Dead Or Alive

Dead Or Alive

The Portland duo of Shadows On Stars are quickly becoming one of our favorite 1-2 team in music today. They blew us away with their gorgeous covers of Lykke Li and Aalyiah and kept us going with sultry, emotional, eclectic original pieces. Chi Duly, mashup artist turned bonafide producer, creates incredible soundscapes that words can’t begin to describe and the beautiful Randa Leigh takes it home from there. This is one of the few artists where we encourage you to dig through their entire discography; it’s that good. Oh by the way, the Mad Men sample takes this to the next level.

Mos Def
Ms Fat Booty (WoodysProduce Summer Citrus Remix)

Mos Def may go down in the history books as one of the greatest hip-hop lyricists of all time. As far as I’m concerned, it’s and Andre 3000’s game to lose at this point. Though he has moved into new mediums, there is no denying his artistic capabilities and Ms. Fat Booty was years ahead of its time when it first came out. WoodysProduce is quickly becoming one of Los Angeles’ best kept secret and on his last effort for his Summer Citrus series, he brings new school sounds to the old school classic. Laying down some original guitar work and resampling Aretha’s “One Step Ahead”, the entire composition of the track is shifted and we think you’ll find this version is better suited for your partying needs.
